I do not recommend using any kind of compressed, semi compressed. lung powered, or hanging them out in the wind. You can destroy an irreplaceable meter in 1 second. You'd be equally better off (or not) whacking it with a hammer. or using a woofer magnet to exercise it...... (ALL this is NOT recommended) they can be cleaned under a microscope if you have a steady hand and know what you are doing. My recommendation is don't mess with it. You'll play hell trying to get another. They are 40 years old and are "Eye Candy".... They lag the system since they are analog slow and aren't used for anything but getting stoned and looking at them. Yes, they can be set to be accurate for the signal you put to them while you adjust them but while playing music........ EYE CANDY

When you WOPL your amp, and THEN it has issues, deal with it then. It could be several things. Check the tape holding the face of the meter down (you'll have to pop the cover off but they can hang up there too. )

Try a little Dawn soap on your finger on the meter's plexi cover then clean it off, could just be static keeping the meter from working correctly
I think a clothes dryer sheet will knock down static also
