I have a PL700, some 901s with eq, a Soundcrafters EQ, and a powered subwoofer. I want to play my iPhone and Sirius radio with this. Is there some preamp I can get by with temporarily in the $100 range? Used is fine with me, and I plan to get a better one later. Money is super tight now.

Check the thrifts and the dumpsters for a mid fi receiver with Pre out/main in jacks. Just use the pre amp section.

Here's a thought. If you really like the Soundcraftsmen EQ there are a couple of Soundcraftsmen preamps with EQ for sale on the bay. If you could get one at the right price you now have a pre with EQ and could sell your present EQ to recoup some money:

This one still has three days to go so who knows what it will command. The aux in can handle an input voltage from 100 mV to 3.0 V so it would handle your iWhatever or satellite system.

I used to run one of these with the Phase Linear 400 and still have a similar model to the one referenced in the link.

This site is a little different as it allows a lot of leeway for comments. You'll need to learn to navigate between the banter and real info. If you go back and read what's been posted you should see a pattern of real information. Learn to apply the filter. We aren't messing with you at all as there is a real attempt to help. If you have specific questions please post them but don't forget to read the previous posts as it may not be real clear if you don't have a lot of experience with electronics or audio. Just saying.

Sorry, I'm just new and I think I just spent $300 on amp that might be junk. No offense to you guys, I know you are here to help and I do appreciate that. Thanks for all the advise and letting me vent. Maybe I can actually get this thing right?!?

Venting is a good thing but you must take into account that with the written word it is so hard to communicate your real feelings because we miss the body language and intonation and all of the other things that occur with face to face discussions. We really want to see what is behind the transformer case - either from an inside perspective or outside. That big fastener in the center of the transformer is bizarre.

Pop the top plate and bottom plate and get some photos - if you can pull the faceplate to get different angled photos that would also help "us" make an assessment.

Howdy,

I just read in the other thread where it sounded terrible for you. Describe what you heard, eh? Also what did you hook up to it? I seem to think an iPad with a 1/8th stereo to RCA cable?

Pretty sure $300 for the 700 even if its not working you can get your money back. They are selling at incredible prices. I would call it a Frankenstein 700. Its been modified beyond recognition. Dennis was right. You have a case to get your money back through ebay.
