Welcome C2cthomas.... First of all love your Avatar !! Big dog lover here !!! My dad who is pushing 70 now '' god love his heart'' was in the navy for years.... He was on the USS Oxford. I'd say that ship was long gone by the time you guys were there !!!

Ex Navy Brat too. The old man started out E1 RMSR, worked through LDO to LCDR before retiring in '91. Both me and my sister attended the retirement ceremony in dress blues, E4 for me E2 for her.

Hi Kevin!! My wife and I like to give forever homes to rescued dachshunds and if we could we would have a hundred of 'em. I guess we all have a favorite breed - and to that end we have rescued a lot of "mutts" too. It's always great to meet another doggy lover too!!!!
I looked up the USS Oxford - ahhhhhhhh a "Liberty" class ship used for "electromagnetic research". That's one of those ships where nobody can remember what they had as a job, where they had been, or where they were going...... sort of like U2 pilots.....
I imagine that he haz some great stories he could tell - and if he ever said anything it wuz probably about 2% of what he actually did....

Well thats says alot about ya C2cthomas !!!! My wife and I have 4 rescue dogs... LOL... 3 Bichon's that sleep with us every night !!!! Thats cool ya looked that ship up... Dad always referred to it as a spy ship...... O.. My wife works at an animal hospital.. She grooms dogs..

LOL!!! Yeah - sometimes finding enough space on the bed can be a challenge. My wife haz a cousin that lives near Richmond and we are adopting one of their Dachshunds (7 y/o female mini) that they needed to find a home for due to moving into an apartment. She should arrive here Monday morning.
We do have one "mutt" that we adopted from our vet who was trying to find a home for her and her litter mates that were dropped off at hiz church around three years ago. We can't really tell what she iz and about the closest we can come up with is a "Schnoodle" (a cross between a schnauzer and a poodle). Her mom wuz around 25 lbs - but daddy must have big boy 'cause our "Mitzi" iz a 5 pound puppy trapped inside of a 60 pound body....
BTW - that's a nice looking line array you have in your photo!!!
Doctor Jim Griffin iz one of the guys that hangs around our neck of the woods and comes to our meetings (when we get around to having 'em). He's a great guy and full of info on just about every speaker you can think of - but line array's are hiz baby's....
Lemme see if I can attach a photo of Mitzi here....
About your Daddy - like I said earlier - he probably maybe shared about 2% of what haz any idea of.

She got out on her 1st enlistment. They waved the SRB in front, and I put in another 6 for a total of 10. Got out just making AT1 (damn, too late.. life on the boatz would have gotten more bearable). Doing IT now instead of trons, but I've been in trons since 11 and stereo since 3... good past-times!

Yeah - I did six from the get go to get the advanced electronics training and it served me well. I could have sewn on my E-6 at 5 years but I only had one year left to go and you needed to have two years left obligated. Ahhhh - the wondering what would have been if I had stayed around with the big re-enlistment bonus - the extra stripe - a chance to go to Annapolis. If I had done that then I wouldn't have run into my 1st wife - and that alone would have been worth the price of admission.....
I got out in 72 - the time of free love and long hair and being in the Navy just didn't seem to fit. I was pretty bummed out when it became public knowledge that we had gone into 'Namn based on a bunch of lies and BS. That's starting to get into politics tho so I'll just shut up now and go listen to some tunes.....
Cool - wish I had the chance to do that in my early years. Now when I get on my horse and feel the 1300 pounds of what seems to mostly muscle and he is ready to GOOOOOOOO my exhilaration is sprinked with some fear - just got to keep the fear part in check as a horse can sense these things better than us humans. I've come off twice and both times I was riding bareback in the hills. Just a sore ass and had to do some walking - I always wear a helmet though even if it does look dorky.

LOL We always rode bareback. To poor to own a saddle. LOL I loved coming home to the barn. Drop the reins and hold on. They were going home. Full gallop is so smooth. Of coarse the horses were racing each other. We had one that would bite if you got beside her. Till I kicked her in the mouth trying to bite me. They would get the molasses horse feed when they got to the barn. Good brushing. Don't fall off or you were walking back. They were not going to stop. LOL
