Yeah so I said heck.. how about these new guys here..

(not my pic.. I'll get one here shortly.. )

Polk Monitor 70's. They can definitely handle all 275 watts, and then some. Some dude I was reading said the tweeters were fragile and he blew his with his 100 watt "chump amp" (hmmm... thinking what I'm thinking??), but I doubt I'll blow em.

So for the past few days I've been finding that "new synergy" for em to make it sound as good as I think it can be. Right now I have the M-80 feeding the CV's and the Crown feeding these guys 500 per for a total of about 760. Pulled the EQ out too.. but finally put that back in the closet. Now I'm running the Yamaha C-60 for the pre with just a little bit of boost on the treble, plus the variable loudness set wherever. Sounding pretty good.

Kind of like a new Rush album (or one ya never heard before.) My first impression has always been "yeeech!", but as I continue to listen, it starts to grow on ya.

For me, I've found a spoeaker doesn't grow on ya, it either has "it" or it doesn't . What about your perception changes with time Jer, or do they indeed sound different over time??

Anyway----    New Speaks require a celebration. I shall "God Particle" some light bulbs in your honor.

Yeah, normally I'd agree but remember what I'm used to listening to - CV D9's... with the L-Pads totally bypassed so both mids and tweets are wide open. I think the initial placement was part of the issue too - I had the D9's on their side and these sitting on top of them. Now I have both on the ground again side by side.

Dang.. the "folks" have been in the house all weekend, so I can't really open 'em up as much as I would like to. But the short time I did, I can tell ya the "punch" of the polks combined with the 15's on the CV's really was sounding good. Good and clear.. no compression. Definitely loud too, but with a SPL of 90 versus 108 you can see why I'm using the Crown for the Polks.

Jerry speakers change with use. So they will sound different. After awhile you will stop hearing a difference. Silk dome tweeters are very nice. You should not hear the shrill that you can get from metal ones. If they are made by who I am thinking. You will have a softer sound on your highs ; but very fast.

On your woofers try the CD you said was making the CVs work very hard. Have you watched the woofers?

Ah but "under the hood" you will find Nichicon FG "Muse" caps in critical signal path locations, with Burr Brown OPA4134's handling the input signal. Kinda like a "stock" car with a 4 bbl and a supercharger.. :thumbright:

The Crown has a weird amplification method tho... something called a "grounded bridge".

You can get more details via Crown's manual site, but my big "what the heck" response is how does the "low side" contribute to the power output? Does it somehow drive the "ground" down, or whatever? Hmmmm!

Do they come that way with the Muse or was it worked over. I have liked Crown for a long time. I wanted a Crown Tube Amp a long time ago. It sounded very sweet. they have just dropped off my radar after I started playing with the Hafler amps. I like no frill power amps. Just let them work.

Jer, are they referring to the low side as the negative half of the sinewave? If they are it's a bridging but with a new twist.

Yep, they're getting there. They really do need the Crown to shine tho - all that extra power at a good listening level makes for great headroom. They don't have the bottom end of the CV's, but hell... I can understand that.

You can check your email and "see".. heheh.

Well I'm glad you are liking them. Did you bi-amp them? Just bi-wiring them brought out more bass on the Epos. Is the tweeter pretty fast?
