New Pink Floyd - November 2014

My brain cells have hardened... Anything after "The Wall" just isn't Pink Floyd to me.

I blame it all on my LSD years, from "The Piper..." to "Animals." Ah, yes... sitting on the sofa, headphones playing "Atom Heart Mother," looking through the window and watching the clouds change color...

I'm being serious when I say that this album will soften your brain cells a bit.
If you listen carefully you'll hear signature PF stuff woven in without coming off as gimmicky.
Is it 'Meddle' or 'Animals' (my two favorites...)? No. But it's engaging like anything pre - 'Final Cut'.
It's a headphone treat too.
Give it a shot...

You're right in your statement above, and indeed very good headphone stuff...
Maybe it's my mood at the moment the total expierence of this album seems a bit dull to me.

Your new avatar inspired me to change mine to the old one!

I couldn't resist altering that product photo and making it my newest avatar, since it had my name all over it ... :tongue4:

I'm glad it inspired you Miles.

Missed your initial arrival Mark, so I'll say "howdy and welcome to PHX" now ... :albino:

I am only four tracks into the CD, and I am into this Pink Floyd compilation. There are shades of "Wish You Were Here" and "DSOTM" in the 2nd track, "Echoes" further in, and more to come. I want to hear the DVD in 5.1 Surround. But, rather than playing it on my home entertainment system, I'm going to figure out how to configure a few components into my main stereo system to experience 5.1 audio. I would willingly spend the time to reconfigure my system to accomplish this, for this album, in particular.

Nando.

That's not to say the band didn't lift their paddles out of the water, momentarily, during tracks 7-9. Track #9 has that jazz feel, doesn't it? Diana Krall could have sung a few lounge-lyrics for that interlude.

They strayed from what would be normally expected. I've give you that. :shaking2:

I'm glad your liking it nando!!! I just can't get into it.. It's slow, boring, all keyboards for the most part. Very uninspired to me. I think there's no vocals because nobody wanted to write! The 1 song Gilmore sings sounds pretty good but the writing is ok at best. I think it was time to line the pockets 1 last time. And maybe a bit of a memorial to richard.

The difference for me, is I knew in buying it what I would be hearing is existing music from Pink Floyd that wasn't, initially, intended for production, but as musical linkage with some of their early work.

Hey, we all like to hang onto what was old and familiar and for a fan that means a softer acceptance of something less than super-stellar.

Well put nando!!!! Look at my screen name! There's another fine example of the same thing you just said !

Hold it, Jason... all this time and I didn't know you are a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan.

Nando.

How about a whacko fan!

Have to agree with Nando about expecting something old and familiar. I also feel that producing new music just to please fans is a sell out. I have all the good stuff you already produced - show me something new and exciting.

We all listen to music differently than we did back in our youth. Hell - I would buy an album just because it had the word F#%K in it. Didn't make it a great album - just innovative (for the time).

109 times ?

One word. Dedication.

Yep! I have been dedicated! I seen them 40 times before we met. And since then I haven't pd for a single show. We are all good friends these days! I have seen them in 16 diff states lol.

A couple of tracks through the album and loving it.

Just bought the Double 180 Gram Vinyl version, can't wait to get it next week, I think this album is vinyl worthy. :blob8:
