Already have a decent Blu Ray deck I bought because of its audio qualities(Pioneer BDP-51FD).
But the newer movies have so much newer features built in to them that is not supported by the older generation of players.
Tried to watch the new Minions movie with the grandkids and the Blu Ray version would not load up.
Had to use the DVD disc to watch it.
Made sure the firmware was updated but still no go.
Remember going through the same thing when Avatar came out.
Kinda disappointed that most players now don't have any analog outputs anymore.
Any good options out there that I am missing ?
Dont want to spend too much on one .
Already asked on another site but wanted to see some other opinions.

I would wait till the 4K Blu Ray players come out in the next few months. Then you will have the newest standard and still be able to play Blu Rays, CDs, and DVDs. These new players are the UHD players. Don't be confused with the ones on the market at the moment, as those only upscale to 4K. The actual 4K players will be out in the next 4 months or so.

Yes,that was mentioned by my daughter .
Don't ever see me buying a 4k TV .
Still using a HD CRT set.
Would like SACD support and most Blu Ray players already dropped that.
Oppo amd Marantz are the only one I am aware of at the moment.

You have permission now braxus.....for the cave....

I own an Oppo BDP-105, and it is a Stellar player. They came out with the BDP-105D (Darby Version) later that does something with enhancing the visual experience. But I think the 105D version also includes 4K upscaling. If you can't wait for true 4K; that's the one I'd pick.

A friend has the 103.
Always heard great things about the 103SE.
Nice gear .
Remember when they burst upon the scene, they were the giant killers back then.
They have dropped their affordable line as of late.
Still be curious to see what 4 K brings as far as equipment.

I highly recommend OPPO players also, the 83 and 85s were great players and work fine with your HD TV.

I have a saying Dennis

"Old digital is just old digital..." :-)

Once a new standard emerges, the old becomes worthless overnight.

The OPPO are the units I have and recommend. I am sure OPPO will have a great 4K unit soon and keep the audio formats like SACD.

Just grabbed a cheap Samsung on sale.
Not much to these new ones, just 3 connections on the back.
Will wait and see what the new ones bring to the table.

Yeah,I still have my Laserdisc players and discs.

I have two 1983 Trinitrons that will outlive me.

and LD, CD, DVD, CED, VHS, BETA, 8mm...go ahead, make mine obsolete.

PS Diet A&W tonight!

I think so when Austin City Limits comes on...

I THINK so at least. I'm just not hip to all the lingo nowadays.

Pretty much Stu. Unless you buy Panasonics new UHD 4k Blu Ray player- the 900, you then will get audio outs on it. But its major cha ching.

Another method is to use the HDMI out of the player into a DAC that uses HDMI ins, and then outputs via RCA.
