Ok, so I have a few ways I can go here and I figured I'd gather some opinions. Here's the situation - Awhile back I had nabbed a pair of Mach 2's. The surrounds on the mids and woofers were toast. For the mids, I found a decent enough replacement - no issues there. But for the woofers I don't think I did as good of a job matching up the specs - The woofers I purchased while good for PA use (read.. LOTS of volume in the cabs, obviously), aren't quite doing it for me. I suspect it has to do with the Mach 2's cabinet size (way too small for 15's imo), so I think what I am looking for are 15's with the nice flexible surrounds i.e. the "long throw" kind.. something like that.

I really can't refoam the originals... as the cab's been under the saw already - the flanges for the woofers I have now were a bit bigger (yeah hindsight.. anywhoo.. ).

So what's the best way to go about this? I've also read where some suggested either changing the length or the width of the port tube (that is way smaller compared to the CV's). Dampening material also helps (there's not much in there at all).

Here are the specs for the originals.. note, since we're also going to be driving these with at least a WOPL'd 400, the replacement better be able to handle some power.. I'm all ears here... what would be a good 15" replacement, which also now fits the TYPICAL 8 hole pattern?

Vented or not? You have to match the woofer to the size of the box. Parts express has a program to see if the woofer will match with the box. Also dia. and length of port. If wrong you can get whistling of the port if wrong.

Vented as in the woofer? I think my main thing is compared to the CV's, the Machs are just.. well.. they sound "boxy" i.e. a lot of resonance, some "punch" when pushed, but overall not having bass that let's you know it's there even at low volumes. It has the bass reflex port and the tube behind it is hmm.. about 7 or so deep but only 1 wide. Compare that with the CV's.. those guys are rear firing, a good 3-4 across and I dunno how deep.. plus there are TWO in the CV's.

What is this program at PE you speak of? Got a link?

Is it possible to increase sensitivity? Like a CV style crossover built for the cabs parameters? I remember having Mach 1's and I loved the hell out of them. I used to drive them with one of these back in the 80s. Don't laugh, they are a very good amp and if I could find another working one on the cheap, I would get it in a heartbeat. A Toshiba SC-335 and they have the big analog meters and -20db switch. These would be another great platform for Joe to look into for a smaller power WO amp

Put it this way, that little amp coupled with a pair of Mach 1's sent me to jail for disturbing the peace. They get insanely loud and pretty damn clean in stock form. The only thing I would want to change also is the speaker terminals

The only way I know to change sen. is changing the speaker. I could be wrong. Jerry you are changing all woofers right?

The smaller CV 15" speakers like Jason has (AT's????) are about the same size as the Mach's. I wonder if the CV woofer would do the job then if sensitivity is based on the woofer alone. I always thought it was ALL the speakers in the enclosure and crossover points dictated sensitivity. As you can see, I know nothing about this shit but I am an eager learner

That's right, both. I think too that because the replacement's sensitivity is lower, I'd be able to use the L Pads for mid and tweeter to level them off(man that buttcrack tweeter sounds good.. I remember throwing a pair in my old Technics circa 1987). Or since my tastes are for loud n clear, it might be a perfect match for me.

Dang Ron that Toshiba looks nice.. hehe.

They are pretty heavy too Jer. They can be had for around $100. I think an awful lot of bang for the buck, great looking and made in Japan goodness

I sold a set of the Realistic horns last year from the Mach 1's, now those kickedass. I might even still have a set of crossovers from a pair of Mach 1's somewhere buried in the garage
