Now that I got me tools (decent soldering/desoldering station) it was time to tackle the M80 again. I had bought a few 2sk389's (dual fet I.C.'s) awhile back, but wasn't about to put them in with the old ratshack cheapo tools.

The M80 I have (yeah, that's the same one with the big gonads strapped to the back aka the 48K 80 volt caps) had to have been worked on before. Whoever did it put in 2 separate 2sk170 single fets. I wonder how well they were matched? I don't think I have to wonder about the originals tho.

So anyway, got the FET I.C.'s put back in tonight. Hmmm.. I gots more bass than I remember the last time I heard the '80. Everything is pretty darn clear. Sounds purty.

Who wanted a Hafler amp fixed up? Now that I am finally starting to have a decent workbench, I feel better about tackling jobs like that. Lemme know...

I got a Pioneer SX-1000Ta and Sansui G-5700 you can have fun with. Maybe you can look in Comp Geeks and tell me how to desolder my laptop's WMP 11 that won't launch too. A guy rescues his laptop and can't save anything for his laptop, really? :alien:

The SX is already boxed.

I've got an M800 with the magic smoke let out if you want to take a look at it.

I could do that...

Jim - give me some particulars on what's wrong, then we'll see about getting it fixed for you

I was craniking it up pretty good with my Legacy's running, oops, the deck speakers were on to, after a while I noticed smoke so I shut it dowmn, they next day I turned it back on and got a pop, that was the end, I have never opened it up since. I paid a dollar for it with speaker outs busted up and fixed them somewhat, it ran fine for about a year and a half, even one night at the bar, never had a problem till I left the deck speakers on witht the Legacy's.

That's really weird Jim, I know the Legacy are kind of a beasty load, what were the patio speakers? Maybe I should stop abusing mine :o . I know it's rated down to 1ohm, so maybe you were trying to draw too much current from it??

Deck just has some small KLH's, but little crappy speaker wire but it is not that long of a run, it had done fine till and exended play at loud volumes with them all running. Hey, beer, an oncoming storm all went together. I had cranked them before with a pair of Century 100's. It is not like the amp hadn't been abused, the speaker outs were busted up from the previous owner dropping it, it may just have had something waiting for the right time to piss me oof and fail.

Ah, that's right I remember seeing pics of it over at ST, you repaired half the back of it with liquid nails or something like that

We have a consignment Yamaha M-80 for sale. $300. Average cosmetics. We've been using it to demo our speakers. I split my EPI 150 voice coils with it last month.
