I listen to the music. I really don't hear the words. I listen to the voice. Not the words. I can not tell the words to many songs. If I'm listening to the words I miss out on the music. That is how I think. I don't care what they singing about as long as notes are coming out of that mouth.

Most times, I choose to pay attention to lyrics for softer tunes. With fast-paced rock tunes it's always the music which pulls me in, then I listen to the lyrics more closely. Anyone who is a fan of The Tragically Hip know most of the words to sing along with the band. Hey... the Beatles pull it off wonderfully by intentionally keeping lyrics and choruses simple to draw you in.
