A cat hair partially lodged into the bearing shaft... Took out and re-lubed. Seems to be part of the issue with speed fluctuations I've noticed. Trying out this record clamp tonight. Never had one before. I don't know if I could tell in a blind test, but I dare say there is slightly better focus...

Joe: A cat hair, you say!

I run a spindle-clamp weight on my Pioneer PL-630. Does it help? I have had it on since I first owned the 630, but I might be apt to say the difference of it on than off is slight in the lower frequencies. That's good enough for me. The same record clamp made a bigger difference on my Ariston RD-80 Transcription Deck, with a full floating suspension.

Nando.

This one you press down firmly, then screw the top down. Makes the clamp, vinyl, platter & sub platter act as one big piece.
