I assume everyone has seen the video of the boy in the clutches of a teenage silverback gorilla at the Cincinnati zoo? I saw an animal trying to help a young boy that had fallen into his lair, the crowds started screaming and the gorilla kind of freaked, dragging the boy around, same as it would do with a young one of it's own...a little rough, maybe...the boy didn't appear to be hurt though, and wasn't!

The call was made to shoot and kill the gorilla, not a tranquilizing dart...that would have taken too much time...says the director of the zoo, http://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/31/us/zoos-killing-of-gorilla-holding-a-boy-prompts-outrage.html?_r=0 , A beautiful, rare animal was killed because some idiots that should not be allowed to care for a child didn't do what any parent would do. I hope they have to do hard labor to pay for what happened, and get spayed and neutered!! :angryfire:
 
It's a tough decision, Craig. Gorillas are beautiful and so are children, both are unpredictable and somebody has to decide.
 
Too many people are ending up in wild animal cages in zoo's. Not sure what is wrong with the parents or people fro entering the cages, but apparently all inner fences need to be electrified like a cattle fences to protect the morons.

Some day we will need warning signs on everything, examples would be do not put child in toilet while flushing, do not stick fingers in blender while blades are moving, do not step in front of a moving car. etc.
 
Agreed my friends, I get a little out of wack when someone doesn't take child care seriously, that means every second of every minute of every 24 hour day for 18+ years!!!! Like forever!

I used to make fun of parents that put their children on leashes like dogs, I don't anymore...
 
I don't think that kid understood that the gorilla wasn't like a horse or cat. Kids have a way of finding how to do things they want, and if anything it was the responsibility of the zoo to keep this from being possible.

I know how frustrated you are about the loss of a magnificent beast but as I said, we don't have forever to make decisions. It sucks, to use a totally ineffective description.

We forget how quick kids can be, but we too were children. We did stupid things too, because we didn't know better. Now that we are grown we can cringe about it but let me ask you honestly, what were they going to do? You really shouldn't be putting a kid on a leash, others will decry that.

Sometimes you don't know you have a problem until you have a problem. But the problem was that the display wasn't curiosity proof.

If the kid had been killed you'd have had two fatalities. It sucks. It's too late to stop, but not too late to learn.

But let's summarize: The ZOO is at fault for having failed to secure the exhibit well enough. It's probable that if the zoo ever does get another gorilla that non-climbable clear fencing will be installed.

No, it doesn't help the gorilla, doesn't justify anything. Life doesn't have press releases or online updates...shit just happens. I think all of us feel bad about the loss of that gorilla. I hope it never has to happen again. It has happened before though.
 
As a parent of 4 children, it's hard to be eyes on 24/7. All it takes is a second. Thankfully I have done pretty well and managed to keep the kids out of a gorilla enclosure
 
I used to take my kids to the zoo hoping the lions would eat them, all that while walking down the side of the freeway..... kids are a PITA and they smell funny.

i tried many times to get rid of mine (we didn't have Craigs list back then and ISIS didn't either) I used to set up the so called Lemonade stand, but the sign read FREE KIDS instead of LEMONADE 5 CENTS (little bastards couldn't read yet)

We have CAMELS at Zoo Boise, nobody going to sneak in there and some drunken blanket-blank was convicted and sentenced for killing one of the rare monkey in the primate cage a few years ago, so unfortunately zoos are not safe from humans.
