Kevin's Hafler p-500

Kevin can drive whatever he pleases with the Hafler P-500. The key is the layout of the speaker, not the amplifier. If the speaker has one voice coil, it may be 4 or 8 Ohms. If it has two or dual voice coils (DVC) (they are usually the same) each one could be 2, 4, or 8 Ohms. If this is the case, the dual voice coils can be wired in series giving 4 (for 2 ohm coils), 8 (for 4 ohm coils), or 16 (for 8 ohm coils) Ohms (for a little better quality sound in series) or the dual voice coils can be wired in parallel giving 1 (for 2 ohm coils), 2 (for 4 ohm coils), or 4 (for 8 ohm coils) Ohms. Any stereo amp is unstable at 1 Ohm, this would only be useful for car audio applications. The Hafler will drive 2 ohms, but you will have to bump the speaker output fuses to 10 or 15 Amps because you may get peaks of 40 Amps. I would recommend keeping the output to 4 Ohms or more in bridged mode because at 2 Ohms you will be pushing 1600 Watts and there are not many speakers that can handle that much power. I'm just sayin'

If Kevin wires the 2 voice coils in series, he will have to phase them correctly else they will cancel each other.

Thanks.... I'll Pull the speaker and let yall know what I got !

Ok.... I'm back ! Last night I hooked up the Hafler to my sub.... Something aint right... First I tried hooking it up stereo... Amp seems to be fine.. Just had no output ! When I turned the gain all the way up I got a little hum and the sub worked but it was like I had a 5 watt amp on it... Then... I bridged it... Same thing.. Just like I had no power... I didnt go into the preamp settings because with the plate amp I have to keep the gain turned way down.... I going to mess with it more this eve.... Mark... Maybe I dont know how to hook it up bridged.. lol.... Lee.. I took pics of everything I did last night.. When I got here at work this morn I couldnt get them off my phone... We tried for about an hour... Still working on that...

Well hell Larrt !!! Dont make fun of me... Thats lee's job... Only took me a yea to figure out how to do this...

Well, they say a picture is worth a thousand words but ya ain't gettin out that easy.

As far as I know your sub is still in the "multi-component" stage and we still don't know if ya got em hooked up right??

Im pretty sure I did hook it up right... Hell... I had that amp hooked up for years... and yep.. I did put it all back together before I tried it.. LOL... I really dont know what else to try.... I got a old infinity sub that I will hook it up to next... I just don't understand....... I know the amp is good... and my sub works real well with the plate amp...

Did you try hooking the amp up to other sperakers?? Obviously we are missing something simple....

So Kevin, did you get your sub to work yet? What's up with that? You didn't short the speaker or amp out during hook-up, did ya? Check the fuses? Tried the amp on a set of different speakers, like the ones you use for center? Tried the plate amp to see if that works....or put a meter on the speaker coils to make sure they aren't fried?

SSHHHHuuuuuuu ! Dont be coming on here after a week of M.I.A. and accuse me of frying s';[t. I got it all under control... You better be worried about where that remote is gonna end up !!! HA !

Well....If ya want to go down to the house and take it back apart ya can..... Last night it was shaking the pictures on the walls.... Kicking ass as always...
