Johan's Phase Linear 700B Fully Comp Conversion

If I had wounded this one I would be suspect. BUT, this one powered up with no glitches, no burps, very smooth conversion actually. AND if there IS something wrong I can usually hear it in the K's, they're like that ya know...
 
Johan, it's been dropped off at Fed-Ex. I'll get a tracking number in a bit here..
 
My printer broke Friday. Can Johan print my return label for me and put it in case??? Then I can pay you lee for the ship or whatever!!! Lmk

Hey Lee - are you still considering sending in your AP for calibration? Just curious since there's some concern regarding a couple of the test results you've seen in the past week or so.

From what I've seen the test results look extremely good but as you said the THD&N is higher than normal although it is below what us normal people can hear. I don't think I've seen a better frequency response curve since I've been here and from what I've seen in my short tenure of looking at the audio world test result graphs.

This should be a great system and I'm sure Johan will be very happy with this. Nice job Lee!
 
Thanks Dennis, yes I am going toi send it in, and get the IMD card in.....it' s entirely possible the THD & N is correct, but this amp sounds as good as others with a quarter of those figures so who knows. Johan will e the final judge on that. And even if he can't hear any difference, if AP says the analyzer was close, then at some point I'll have Johan send it back, I hate mysteries...
 
Bad resistor, cap, diode, transistor, new doesn't mean every part is tested Johan. Some may be marginal and not caught. That's why Joe specs only those that have been shown to be reliably good parts, but even then some can slip by. Another thing to drive a guy crazy, and another thing that makes each amp different, a difference in tolerance can make them different, don't know if it's audible in all cases, but I'm bettin in some it is...
 
And Johan, when I shake em down I push them HARD FOR HOURS AND HOURS. This one even went to Timdalfs for a day. I usually find the weak spots , if any, and go from there. In this case however, I was getting those figures right out of the box, so to speak, and I hadn't tortured it yet. Had those figures deteriorated during testing I would have been all over that board...
 
My friend who also has some White oaked 400's and some NICE Soniphase S6 speakers that will take a ton of power. We can soak those Soni's with 450 watts continously... I can't exactly tac out a 700 on my K's , but I can trip the thermoswitch without a fan....
