Has anyone ever tried to Paint or dye old faded speaker cones ?

A quick google on the topic gets results all over the place....
I have a set of JBL 10" midrange 2123H's for a future project
They are not new by any means but 100 % functional , I will probably
recone them in the future but for now Ya' think I can either paint or dye the cones
back to looking good ?
Btw, the JBL factory recone kit is around $ 130/ ea Canadian !

Anyone have any success with a secret family recipe ?

I did do that once once to some 12" woofers in Ultralinear speakers. Used black liquid shoe dye diluted 50/50.

Cones were faded and the speakers were for re-sale so I wanted them looking as good as possible.

you Could re-dope then with 50/50 white glue and water, maybe dyed black but I’ve never dyed mine when doping them as they were new redone kits. Not sure it would hide what’s there. I would dust em lightly with flat black spray bomb. Just don’t soak them so the solvent in the paint doesn’t attack them. Light coats.
 
When you add mass to the cone you are going to affect the response. JBL did not coat them for some reason...
 
It may be a negligible effect...and would the paint or coating affect the stiffness of the cone?
