After many years of looking for this very rare grail, I finally found one. It's not a 10, but it could easily be an 8. Considering that the last one at ebay went for $1,600.00 NON WORKING, this was a bargain. I bought it from the guys of Audio Room in Colorado. The packaging was simply amazing, the delivery incredibly fast and the condition of the deck as they described it. 2 small knobs are missing and they gave me a discount for this. Then, I just discovered that the master fader knob was missing too,so they upgraded my shipping to 3 day Priority Mail for free. No surprises. I'm actually listening to her: a classical music cassette I recorded 25 years ago in my Revox B 215 with dbx type II, that fortunately, the Z 7000 has dbx too! Amazing sound. You can't hardly distinguish if it's a cassette or a CD. I would try to replace the knobs with nice looking ones if I don't find the original's.

Unfortunately for me, no manual. If someone here has a copy or at least could supply me with the recording session only, it would be fully appreciated. There's no way you can record properly in this deck if you don't have the manual. It's very complex and full of possibilities.

The machine is simply a beast. Over 40 pounds of solid construction. The appearance is a 10 and the feautures are second to none. The sound is really impressive but I would tell you later after I record my first tape in her. By now I'm just playing cassettes all day long to see if she fails after heating up in order to claim my warranty. So far, so surprisingly good.

Only thing that could compete with this in the looks is the 1000 ZXL. My ZX 9 looks like a mosquito next to her...but I'm sure that the normal Nak extended highs would be unbeatable. More on this later. Photos to follow.

Recap: a simply amazing beast with all the features you could ever need, an enviable construction and the looks of a serious machine.

Congratulations.

I have never seen one up close but they certainly look impressive. Look forward to reading more about the recordings made on this monster!

What an iconic cassette deck! I scoffed at a Buy 'N Sell ad back in about 2007 for the same deck from the original owner for $500. It's wonderful to see you get one...lucky guy!

Audio May 1984 Magazine Review of Teac Z-7000

As promised, here's the article on this fabulous deck. Once reading through this article, you will be even more impressed of the features engineered into this deck.

Thanks, Nav. For those who might think those asking prices are high, consider the scarcity of those decks. I know some who have had their Nakamichi Dragons, Tandberg 3014As serviced and have more than $3,000 into their decks, which included the initial price of the deck.

Doug: It sounds like the gentleman selling those Teacs has had more than his share of the cream of the crop as far as cassette decks.

After reading this thread I've looked into the Z-7000 and it is a wonderful deck. It is expensive but these don't seem to come around often.

This guy has a lot of other quality components on the market now and all seems top notch. I emailed him about a 35 WRMS Pioneer SX-636 receiver (IIRC) and asked if he could demo it but he said he had way too much stuff to test it at his place - but he did say that I could take it home and use it for a couple of days and if I liked it pay him for it. It looks like new from the photos I saw but I have not moved on it yet.

Nav: The guy sounds like me in two years' time. The SX-636 is not a mega-watter receiver, but adequate. I use a Pioneer SX-680, regularly, and I have a nice little SX-434. too. You had better check if he has a Pioneer SX-1250. I had a beautiful SX-1050 which I sold on consignment for $800 earlier this year. Don't worry - I used the proceeds from that sale towards an SX-1980.

Taking into consideration the scarcity and rareness of these machines, plus the nice condition this guy has kept his toys, I honestly consider that the prices are a bargain! A year ago, a non-working Z 7000 with superb cosmetics went for $1,600.00 at ebay. I bought one for $800.00 with missing knobs and some scratches. I also bought a Z 5000 for half of that that is coming from Sam this week...so, the prices are right. The Z 6000 even includes the remote! He is also selling a very nice Tandberg 3014...

So, I'll try to fetch the 6000 and complete my Z series collection.

I still have minty serviced Tandberg 3014A that I got when I made a deal with a local lady who was selling her Dad's system after he passed on. It works fine but I rarely play cassettes anymore so it's boxed safely away until I decide to do something with it again

Nice Z's indeed, congrats!

That's a nice deck man. Those are tough decks to find service/parts for anymore from what I hear.

The prices did seem fair for these - just out of my reach at the moment. Good luck and let us know how it goes. If you need help at this end let me know as he's resides in the same city as I do.

Well, I just talked with the guy...unfortunately, he has health issues and is not willing to get into shipping etc. It's just a local pick up deal. I'm too distant from California and has no relatives there,so, I think the Z 6000 has to wait.

If it's possible to seal a deal with the seller through Nav, I would go for it if you have your heart set on it. Nav has graciously offered. This is a small community, but very tight knit. I've had stupendous help from members who have alerted me of things of interest to me and gone as far as arranging the pick-up and delivery, as intermediaries, even though it was miles away.
