Why thankee kind sir :D , it's my cousin, cumoniwannalayu  , he's a bit of an embarrassment to the family  , but we southerner's don't hide our crazy kin, we stick'em right out in public, he sits on a couch on the front porch all day, waving at the passer's by, smokin' his joy sticks and cackle'n like a banshee!

I think MOS-FET's have a warmish sound, a bit like tubes, the Sanyo's are fast buggers, great slew rate!

Well then, After the Cary's have established citizenship, my scratch built 500 watt l-mosfets will be next on the list. After Joe finishes the PL board replacement project he's going to update and re-layout G. randy's design to up the wattage from the 400 to the 500 range, then have a 100 board run on the PCB's. I can handle the rest of the amp except the PCB's. They will be modular const with the power supplies in their own chassis, consisting of 1kva toroids with 4-22,000uf 100 volt caps and the amp section in mirror images so the heatsinks will be facing each other so they can bo slid together and bolted up and form a cooling tunnel in the middle of the complete stereo configuration, a cooling fan will then be attached at the back to move the air through em. they will have DC protect, on and off muting, soft start( one KV toroids require this) Led meters and high heatsink shut downs. The facepltes will be laser etched with thefollowing "Laatsch Fet 500", or something like that. the chassis will be 1/4 inch aluminum or 3/16 stainless, leaning towards brushed stainless so i don't have to anodize.Thoughts?

I'd say that sound fantastic! I like the laser etched name on the front ala Carver Special Silver Sevens, you should have your signature under your name, that would really set them apart! The cooling tunnel is a great idea, if it's a muffin fan don't use the plastic cover, get a nice metal grill cover in a contrasting finish! Make the back as attractive as the front I say, this is a statement product to proudly show off your skills to your visitors at the "Casa de DillyDalley Ranch" ;)

The cooling tunnel cover will be stainless with grooves machined for air flow and form the rest of the faceplate. Depending on my machine skills that day i'm going to make a tongue and groove fit for the grill to keep the face consistent all the way accross it. Then we'll have a traveling amp session with em. At least they won't be a pain to ship and should receive less damage than normal.

Ok , theres another term i'm not familiar with, how do horns "distort the air".
AKA "Throat distortion" Most loud playing high power horns cause the air to move non-linearly in the narrowest part of the horn, which is a form of distortion. Most people think their ears are being distorted!

#4: Denon DN-790R cassette, Nakamichi BX-300 (needs to see the nakdoc), Sanyo -35 int. amp, AKG K-601 headphones, Grado SR-60 cans, speakers ??

Look for Yamaha NS 30 speakers.

You like flat response. Even the Pilot system, as colored as it is, is matched to a purpose. Many folks want one system to "do it all" . How many of you have pushed your listening rig to maximum resolution only to find that you do not ENJOY listening. I love analytical systems, but will not listen to them, if that makes sense.

Larry, arriving at something you like may well be the ultimate goal. Many of us do not seek to upgrade once we have something we are happy with, but do so when we get to borrow a unit. Are you saying you do not get out and about? If you are not listening to other systems, you loose the compare/contrast tool that is a bit easier to keep a hold on reality with (as opposed to Absolute Sound).
I completely understand what you're saying doc, that Pilot is melt your heart gorgeous with classical, early jazz and vocals, I don't play hard rock on it, it just sounds awful. Thanks for the Yammie speaker recomendation, but I never cared for their bright, analytical studio monitor sound.

I have lot's of friends that bring their just bought cd over to play at my place (some even have a system in mind they want to hear it on)(the Gall of some people!) , J/K, I love it! However, they then go home to their BPC boxes and are happy. I only know one audio nut like me. He's got old Scott tubes, amp/pre/phonopreamp and older Maggies.
NS 30Ts are not at all like NS 1000. Trust me. They are the only 2 way Yamaha with correct midrange!

So, that was the improvement i was hearing going from a 1" throat driver in a plastic horn to the 2" driver in a wood horn, besides the quality of driver being better??

Just put some Pat Travers " Heat In The streets" had this along time ago. I think I have a pretty good system. LOL

Well maybe 1 good system out of 3. But I would still take those Carys. LOL
