What I mean. Is I listen to mine all the time. I have nothing to compare it to. So how do you know if your system rates? What do you listen for? To me I have good systems. I probably could go with a better TT.

OK how do you think you could improve your systems? I have upgraded a few things. I have ICs every where where I have changed them out. I have honken big power cables. I use power conditioners. How do you tell that you have a nice system? Are you ever satisfied.

Am I crazy for using silver solder on everything? Was I crazy to get Black Gates for the PL? Then I use Gold wherever I can. Am I crazy to buy 12 ga silver coated hook up wire for my speakers?

I ran out of AA dacs. So I need one. LOL

When do you quit trying to get Nirvana.

I think about different speakers also; but I think I would build them myself. It is way cheaper to do it your self and there are some great designs to go by. It can be expensive; but what you have would cost you a lot more to buy.

I think I would build a tower speaker for once. I designed a few but never built any. Would be a 3 way or 4 way.

Although, I haven't done it for about three years, I did bother a stereo shop salesman, or two to demo a few expensive systems. All the systems were newly released components of the time, and I brought my friend who had heard my system. So, you can imagine my amazement when you tally the amount of all the separates, some $20K worth, and compared to my mixed bag of vintage gear we both agreed mine sounded better. Now, that's a comparison of old to new. I've had the opportunity to listen to some relatively good gear at Innovative Audio which deals in vintage equipment. There really hasn't been too many friends of mine who have held onto their older gear. I remember those house parties from the 70's and 80's well! If you have become involved in mix tape swaps, that can help to prove the strength of a portion of your system, once you receive feedback.

I like my Creek and my tubes which everything is newer. But even with that I run tube gear. My Norman labs were sort of nostalgia when I bought them. I had a pair when in the Air Force. I really don't know what I have tied up in my systems retail. Wires and every thing about 25-35,000.00 That is 3 systems and a lot of other gear included.

I would hate to even guess what web has tied up in his.

Larry

PS I don't pay retail for much of anything.

I would hate to guess the value of mine. 8-10k on the speakers retail. 4-5k build your own. The rest, God knows.
You were not crazy to put BG's in the PL.

I use my ears to tell if I have a good system. All kidding aside if I am happy with my system then it is good. I rarely have a chance to compare my system with any other one. I do compare one component to another but even that usually is hard to pick one that is clearly superior.

I guess if you are somewhat happy with what you have then it must be a good system....

My problem is wanting to add a system to the backroom and also something to the basement workshop area and have no idea what to buy. The more I look, the more confused on what to buy one becomes. Then there is the whole separates vs combo receivers and it goes from there.... It must be vintage and none of that BPC is the only real requirement.

Thankee sir! Dale doesn't like it his bedroom is on the other side of the back wall, and that's a Phil Spector, wall of sound with those speakers, the little AR's put out some serious bass for a little sealed box. Roy Allison know how to make'm back then. That Kennie is 130wpc @8 and 260 @4.
