Help fix PL700B with PL-14B board

100 volt caps in that situation is tenuous. Their called May-pops then. If you ae going external, go to 125 volt and anywhere from 20,000-35,000uf.

Steve at Apex JR has some 125 volt 35000uf caps that are larger and will not fit internally but if you are going external with them they will do the job.

Damn !!!! OK.... Your right !!! I get a little carried away sometimes...

hi guys..
this might be a silly quesion what if I have 4 of them ,2 for each side and wire them so that I get 200V and 50000uf per side ..would that be a solution?

the other question is I will be replacing all the .33ohm n .27ohm resistors on the back (including the white WW resistors ) are these to be all 1 watt metal film resistors..If was to wire them 2 together paralel to make them 2 watt is it a benecial thing to do (im thinking the 1watts are more accurate and also durability..is this a good idea )

Parallling caps will work, but if you wire them for the extra voltage you don't double the uf capacity. You don't get something for nothing. Being external you have lots of options.

Get this wire wound off the backwall and keep it off. The emitter resistors are not critical , nor in the signal path. Current sharing is not that difficult to bring off, but if upgrading go with metal film or metal oxide. No need to mess with the values or sizes of anything on the backwall, that was usually very reliable....

The emitter resistors are not 1 watt. Did you order a service manual??

thanks to a lovely member i have a manual..onthe schematic i cant see if they are 1 watt or 2watt or metal film

Sorry just going back to the cap thing...if wired in series 2 per side will that not make 200v 50000uf

please bare in mind im looing for options here coz some things are very hard to find downunder in oz

Series does not increase votage handling, paralleling does but at a severe degrade in the capacitance. Does your service manual have a parts list in the back?

ok so i wont be using these caps ...just had a look at the link is there a dummies dummy link hahaha
confusing stuff .

no there is no parts list that i can see..care to share:)

The dummies link was not intentional, really, yeah let me scan the parts list..

Here ya go....

thanks laatsch55...Now i can get to work and make a start

will let you guys know of the pogress

cheers

Remember Sir, there are no dumb questions and an assumption can cause weeks of troubleshooting.....I know, I've done everything wrong you can do working on these, I have taken the hard road so you don't have to.

Thanks for the help laatsch55 ...knowledge is priceless. I wish i was as clever as you guys

BIG HUGGY WUGGY from me freind
