 Greetings Phoenix Guys! I'm a newbie around these here parts. But no stranger to great audio. A little about myself before I begin posting any newbie (embarrassing) questions or topics!

I have been involved in the audio world since the 90's. My Uncle owned two pairs of Altec Lansing Voice of the Theater's, and my father (who said he preferred a warmer sound); owned three pairs of Bozak Concert Grands he acquired in the 70's, and of course he needed a good amp to drive those things. He originally used an audio research SP3-A as his pre-amp, and a tube audio research amp paired. (model I have since forgotten). But tube replacement was getting too expensive, so he purchased a dozen Phase Linear 400's. I grew up in the 80's and 90's listening to HUGE and LOUD speakers. Suffice it to say, today I love the audio world. I have built custom enclosures now that exceed the size of my fathers speakers and power requirements. As such I became enthralled with the beautiful Phase Linear 700B. And now have tri-amped systems using these amps. I have upgraded several light boards to White Oak Audio (WOA) myself and am in the process of doing so with the power capacitors. (Thank you Joe for referring me to this site!) I was invited many months ago, but hesitated until I spent all this time reading the forums as an "outsider" so when I joined, I would know what to expect in discussions. It seems like a fantastic forum!!

My personal Home Theater system is basic and simple. Arcam gear, Oppo Blue Ray, Parasound Amps, Rotel preamp for my two channel application and a small PL 200/2000 combo in another room.....etc. Vintage two-channel is still my love! :love10:

This probably isn't the place to post a request, but I haven't browsed enough to find it just yet. Does anyone here know a person I may ask about as to finding a replacement PL700B power switch? (non-wafer type). Or original PL face plate bolts? (wifey prefers bolts over rack handles).

Thanks for allowing me into the brotherhood fellas!!

Welcome to our forum. Your dad seems to be a no-holds-barred audio enthusiast. Lucky you! I am sure someone here will be able to round up either the part you need, or refer you to where you might find a power switch for your PL 700B. It sounds like you have a nice stereo entertainment system.

Dennis---what a croc of s^%$. Lots to learn from you.

Phanatic, you landed in the right place. We love our PL 700's turned into WOPL 1000's. I occasionally torture my K-Horns with 300-400 watts, quite an experience. I just sent Skratch 16 faceplate bolts but I shopuld have 4 more around here. Got some rack handles to trade??? I also have a power switch.

This isn't like other forums, we go off topic at the drop of a hat and other irreverent activities, just watch that Nav guy......

We have even been known to hijack our own thread... then complain to management about it!

Thanks guys! I am from Missouri. Somewhere close to the city of St. Louis. This area was full of hi-fi stereo shops in the 60's and 70's. Big speakers and big amps were the norm here in those days. My father also had a Technics turn table, and a TEAC reel to reel in his audio research system. Big huge component shelf on one side of the den, and giant speakers on the opposite side of it. One speaker per each side of the fireplace. Dim lights and many beer nights with loud music. Kinda miss those days. We had moved to several places throughout the years, but always stayed here. Imagine as a kid seeing some moving guy put a strap around his back, with a Bozak Concert Grand speaker (fully loaded) and walk out the front door with it!!! 300lb speaker!! I thought my father was nuts for having such crazy things. Now I've developed the same "illness"! :tongue6: The USPS guy complained to me yesterday about the "weight" of the box he was delivering to me, and asked if I was buying boulders? Little did he know it was another PL700B. Thanks Joe. My avatar IS one of your boards there. As you know, all my PL700B's also have them. But I know some of you guys are already using that avatar, and it's the Phoenix main image. So I went with the PL400's (little amp) VU's.

Yes I HAVE noticed you guys hijack your own threads! Heh. And over the months I've seen topics go waaaaaay off base! But it's ok. That's what makes the forum fun. One second, I'm reading; "I'm trying to set the bias correctly using my oscilloscope spectrum analyzer thinga-majiggy....." and the very next response is; "I went boating in lake Tikawikatahitti this weekend. How were the tacos you had for lunch Nando?" LOL! Or (insert whatever irrelevant topic here). Hah hah! It's fun to read.

You have no idea how much I'd LOVE to have my 700B's sent in to be completely WOA'D! Unfortunately $$ IS an object. :-( As far as the power switch is concerned; I was tearing that 700B apart yesterday, and found out that the light board was causing a short. Some guy unfamiliar with how to install LED lights, did not account for something. The lights that light up the logo are original, and he replaced the four original incandescent's per meter, with SIX LED's each, with no other modifications to the PL17B board itself. And I found reflective tin foil touching that power switch. A lot of voltage issues I saw here. So I'm having Joe ship me a new board. But I am no longer "fizzing" and shorting at the power switch. But the LED'S are burning out one by one. I also polished the knobs. They were heavily oxidized and I may have accidentally polished TOO hard. Because now they look like chrome instead of brushed aluminum. Looks shinny and great! But still, I'm not sure I should have done that? (they are the metal knobs, and not the plasic ones.) Since I have both versions; the 700 watt R.M.S. AND the Laboratory standard.

On PL bolts? Yeah. I could really use some! I have a set of rack handles already, and this will make two. I may be into a trade? They are just in ok shape. They probably need to be refinished by that person I have seen mentioned on this forum. Jen? If you want to trade, let me know. I'll watch out for that NAV guy! I've seen a lot of his posts before. Don't worry. He won't scare THIS newbie away! But thanks for the heads up! hah hah! :laughing2:

Thanks for letting me into the forum fellas. Now if you'll excuse me; I have some PL 700B main power capacitors to replace................

OK, good. Rack handles for 700B's I coul;d use. We do a lot of trading and just giving parts to members here. I have a very close relationship with Ed Blkackwood that gets us access to parts we normally wouldn't. He's a very nice guy that is obviously as much a PL fanatic as the rest of us.

That's fantastic. I know bolts are probably a dime a dozen as far as availability goes with people in this forum. But rack handles are tougher to get a hold of. (So I'm told) Originally I preferred keeping them for this reason. I mean......if you say you may just "give" these bolts away? Great!! But if you require a trade, I'm still open for that. Shoot me a message and we'll discuss. Much appreciated!!:toothy8:

Welcome aboard from another Phase Linear fan.
I have only owned a few of their pieces but I liked the ones I had.
