Hello from Boise, Idaho, USA

Welcome to our forum. Tell us a bit about your audio passions and other hobby interests.

Nando.

Welcome from Tennessee! Just passed by there in June on our trip. Pretty state!

I'm with Nando, it sounds like there's a tape deck story somewhere from your username...

I have always had an unreasonable amount of fascination for magnets. Ask my aunt, I broke her expensive HMT (Hindustan Machine Tools) watch when I was 4 years old to see if it has a magnet in it.

29 years later... I developed a fascination for tape decks because of the Electro-magnetic, Analog, and Mechanical nature of them..

I work on all types of tape decks. Here are some of the ones that I worked on.

Sony WM D6 - Speed module repair, new mute module etc.

Sony WM D6C - New chip (Sergui helped me with chip), belts etc.

Sony WM D3/DD10/DII/II - New belts, gear, caps etc.

Panasonic RQ S55V- bent roller arms etc.

Nakamichi 250, 550 multiple units.

Nakamichi TD 500 : recap, repaired pots etc.

Here are some full size deck:
Nakamichi BX300, BX2, CR4, CassetteDeck 1, LX3

Kyocera D 601, 611, 811 (lapped heads also)

Braun C3 : lapped heads, recapped, and a new PS etc.

I transplanted a Sankyo Direct drive BLDC flywheel and motor from a parts Kyocera 801 into my Nakamichi CassetteDeck 1.

Vince guided me with all my head lapping adventures.

Welcome! My step mom is in Boise and my sister is somewhere near Idaho Falls. I recently did a bit of work on my WM-D3 (seen in the what are you ding today thread). I'm looking forward to seeing some of your cassette deck work.

Probably. Also birds on fire, which may be a tie in to the old flame linear amplifiers and their tendency to spontaneously combust.

Fortunately, we have Joe making replacement parts less likely to catch fire, even at k-horn destroying volume levels.

Or maybe it just sounded cool…

Larry (Speakerman), who sadly passed about ten years ago, set up the Phoenix forums as well as manufactured his own brand of cassette tapes for a few years. There were several people involved in the early efforts; most of them are still here, still innovating, and still helping others. The tapes went away but the forum stands as a monument (in my mind, anyway) to honest, outspoken, and ornery folks who are also outstanding individuals who will share knowledge and help any time it's requested.

But I should let those who were there originally speak to the matter. They have far more standing.
