Guitar Tape

Sorry, I haven't got around to listening yet. Maybe this morning before I go to bed I'll pop one in. The phoenix test tapes arrived today. I've got lots to listen to!

I just finished Tape 1. I assume that is all Larry's choices? First off you can't go wrong starting a tape with my favorite Pat Travers tune "Snortin' Whiskey"! I also recognized "Looking Out For Number One". It's been a while since I heard that one but was this a new version or the original by BTO? I know Randy Bachman and Fred Turner have a new album and I thought maybe they might have redone it. And of course I knew the "Hell Freezes over" version of "Hotel California". Love those guitars!

As for the rest, it was all new to me. (Although the instrumental that starts side two sounded kind of familiar). Was one track by The Dave Matthews Band? Who did the killer version of "Bohemian Rapsody"? Also who did the lo-fi bluesy psychedelic number with the vocals buried way down in the mix? How about the one about "Shaving A Monkey"?

Overall a fun tape.

Oh yeah, who did "Georgia On My Mind"? The harmonica reminded me of Mickey Raphael.

Yes that came from the new BTO CD. Johnny Winters did Shave the Monkey. California Guitar Trio did Rhapsody. An Aussie did Georgia On My Mind named Roy Buchanan. The other it has been a long time since this tape started. I started it last summer I think. I'm trying to remember who all is on it. Ritchie Blackmoore, Malmstein. Trying to think of the others. I don't think of Dave Mathews when I think of guitars so I doubt it. Any one I considered a good guitarist that I had in my collection at the time was on it. Frank Marino, Joe Satriani. There are more.

I take it that's a different Roy Buchanan then the one i've known and loved for years. What album was the Johnny winter track from? It didn't sound like him at all. His playing or his singing. The phrase "Shave The Monkey" did sound kind of familiar.

Oh wait a minute...

I just looked my Johnny Winter collection and I have a song called "The Monkey Song" on the cd "I'm A Bluesman". I've only listened to this album once and didn't like it much. I didn't think Johnny's voice sounded like the same guy. Not as gruff as it once was. Did he quit smoking or something?

It may be Ray B. Your gonna make me dig through all my CDs? LOL I'll get back to you.I'm listening to him on R2R right now. I never label my music. LOL

My Roy Buchanan was an American. He was known for some serious electic blues guitar pyrotechnics. So I'm thinking it probably is a different one.

How many tapes are left to record on? There are still a few people left. I can send more if need be.

Larry

There's 3 still sealed.

Well how is it going? I know there is a lot of music to listen to. How does everyone so far like the Phoenix blue labels? Is it a good tape?
