My 1937ish Silvertone 4589 isn't no-fi and when I had a 12" permanent magnet speaker wired into the field coil it was powerful enough to rattle the 45 tube into microphonics.

45s are NOT CHEAP. The small speaker went back in but the adapter ring it has was made for an ~8 inch speaker.

On the other hand it will receive 1000 watt AM stations 200 miles away very nicely with a 10-12 foot single wire.

They weren't called Silvertones for no reason. My Radiola 18 is at the other end of that spectrum.
It's claim to fame is that it was the first AC powered set built by RCA. It featured one knob tuning.

1927. My older sets were powered by car batteries. I built a power supply.

In the 1920's battery acid on the carpet was quite a conversation starter.

Philadelphia was a manufacturing center of radios. I have some Atwater Kents, Radiolas and Philcos. Not rare, but beautiful examples of American workmanship. Just like these Phase Linear products.

Was wondering why I never heard of P/L back in the day. Everything was Marantz. And Pioneer.

Hi Nando I'll have to borrow a smart phone. They are beautiful in their simplicity. With three dial tuning, it must have seemed like an event to even pick up a station.
