Hello. I have the itch to hear vintage analog and the PL400, 4000 and 5000 just arrived. I hoped for working units but no luck. My new hobby brings me to the forum! I'm a dangerous amateur with a meter and just made dim bulb, so look out!
I took the 4000 to a tech due to no power and a whole lotta boards. The 400 sn 3939, pl 14A looks a lot easier to start on. It has one channel silent.

The journey begins.

Welcome Aboard SoCalPat,
You are definitely in the right place!
Great camaraderie and tons of knowledge here. You will have that PL400 up and running in no time.
Depending on which PL4000 you have, they can be more work than they are worth. I have two PL5000's and
they both work like new, have one in my main system.
Have fun, and enjoy the ride.

Good to be welcomed, Thank you! I probably should have done a little research prior to purchasing. I bought early models of the PL400 sn#3939, 14A board and the PL4000. They both look great inside. Nothing is burnt, popped or off color. The 4000 doesn't come on at all. The 400 only has the left channel working and the right channel doesn't have any sound. The RCAs snap into the input jacks tightly, the jacks look great. I swapped speakers and RCA leads to confirm. I don't find any shorted transistors, caps or diodes. I checked the zener diode at what I thnk is D1, it is passing current. That's where it stands now. I took the PL4000 to a shop for diagnostics. It's been there about 6 weeks. All I have heard was power makes it passed the first spot and dies at the second Not sure ( sorry it was a couple of weeks ago) but I think he said relay. I sent him a schematic and said I would ask around.
Can't wait to actually hear it!
