Nope. Went to Champaign - Urbana. Wasn't suppose to drink at 18 but the bars let you in and stamped your hand. I always paid with the palm up. They didn't care. In those days people were firing it up right in the clubs. LOL I was there during the blizzard of 1978. Do you remember it? We had to dig Officer housing out. They couldn't get out of their houses because of the drifts.

I remember the ice storm in April, that was really devestating, we lost most of the trees in this area as well as power being ou for a couple of weeks. I was workng at the donut shop then, we never lost power there, we were sure a popular place. I was 19 then, legal in Illinois then for beer and wine.

Champaign is a college town so they would have been easier. We used to go to Carbondale, lot of fun there, never went to college but sure like to go there for the young girls.

I remember the April ice storm, but it was before '78, I was still living in St. Louis, we had several inches of ice, then about a foot of snow on top of that, no school for a week and a half, Mom about killed herself, but us kids loved it. I think the whole city of St. Louis was shut down for almost a week, nothing moved for at least 3 days in my neighborhood, that's when the National Guard came in Army trucks with food and supplies, it was all very exciting!

It was probably 77 for the ice storm, I had just moved away from home into a big house with 4 other guys, damn we were stoned! There was a party 24/7. We all worked different hours so the party just kept going. Animal house came out about then, we thought they were pretty tame campared to us.

I have a bunch of pictures from the ice storm, but they are all analog.

We had a smaller ice storm a few years earlier, I was ice skating in the streets and down the hills in the park, it was a kick. Passing cars on skates, I even ice skated to school, it was faster and safer as long as you avoided the cars.

I do remember those stretches of cold, had to take the battery out of the old Tempest and take it in the house so I could get it started to go to work. The accelerator pump was bad in the carberater, I carried a bottle of gas to dump down the throat of the carberater, when it shot flames I knew it would start on the next try,

Wasn't that the year it snowed early and we still had the same snow on the ground at the end of February? Just black instead of the white that it came down as.

We couldn't break ranks. And if you tried to stop you fell down. We tried to miss them. It wasn't fun with the wind blowing across that flat piece of Earth.

Because we were in school. We didn't get our cold weather gear. We got a field jacket liner. I got more cold weather gear in Texas. LOL

Illinois is some of the best farm land in the world, but it is flat as hell. but three feet deep of good lack dirt is good for growing crops.

Hell we look at overpasses as mountains. If you ever make it to southern Illinois though, that is where the glaciers dumped everything after leaving behind all of this farm ground, check it out sometime, it ain't like the flat piece of earth you were on. I love it down there.

No joke I can only see half the page then I scroll. LOL I think I flew out of Springfield. When I could just jump flights and go see friends. That was one great benefit. 10.00 round trip any where Continental flew. I was gone every week end.
