I remember when I was proud to have a 1.5 GIGAbyte and now I have over 70 GB of media files ALONE.

We've all become a world of BYTE SLUTS.

How do they do that?? Is memory really getting that cheap or are they dumping junk?
320 GB is pretty small these days, even for notebook computer hard drives.
Believe it or not, they are still making money on that deal.
All the *big margin* dollars are made on the highest capacities..

I seen a 8tb on there for like 400$. 8tb jeez how big would somebody need lol.
8 TB is a lot of porn. :evil4:
But seriously, the reason to upgrade is two-fold:

1) drives don't last forever and when they crash & burn, important stuff gets lost.
So it makes sense every 3~5 years to upgrade to get longevity and it's certainly cheaper than going the route of buying a new computer..

2) the bigger the size (capacity), the quicker it is to get at your smaller chunks (files),
so in other words - do it for the speed. Believe it or not, hard drives are fundamentally the biggest bottleneck in a PC.
Getting a new HDD can breath new life into an otherwise sluggish machine...generally. There are exceptions of course..

I had a 750 GB SATA stick it's head up it's platter as it is...that, I've figured, is what DVDs are for.

Seriously though, I've made but one and I'm still using CD-Rs at this point.

I have a 1TB and I have so many albums and concert and family pics it's ridiculous and it's still not full. I think my dell laptop is like 320gb.

But why pay for it when the samples are pretty lame half the time and there's nothing you really haven't seen before half the time and some yutz has probably attached a doohickie to it to be ferreted out with antimalware tools?

They're owned by many of the same sorts, I gathered and always suing each other over ripping off each other' files...have you ever seen a takedown notice to Google for such things? It's comedy at it's finest.

I have 12 TB connected to my main machine and I'd guess I probably have about 7 tb filled. I also have about 6 TB of backup on 2.5" USB drives. If you rip Blue Rays and keep a decent resolution you can fill up the drives fast. The way look at it, I have more media then I can watch or listen to in two lifetimes. :rabbit:

And Yes Lee I have a few 128GB SD cards and 128GB USB Thumb Drives.

My home computers are for anything internet related. I only use the phone for telephone calls, a few texts and on the go emails. I rarely surf the internet cause the screen and of course keyboard are too damn small. I don't know how kids can watch a movie on their phone, if given the choice of movie on the phone or no movie, I'd go with no movie. :rabbit:

I have a 27 inch screen at work and on my home computer, anytime I am not at either then I don't need to be on the internet.

Yeah I hate talking on the phone and use a text for simple messages. Of course I don't send 500 a day like a teenager, but probably 5 or 10 in one day at most. For the most part I appreciate getting away from my phone and computer that I often forget the phone behind when going places. :rabbit:

I didn't say a thing!! That's a bad ass SD card...
Yeah it would take me 50 years to fill it with images, but it is nice to never have to worry about filling it up. Same thing for the thumb drives, I usually carry one with me and it is nice to haul lots of data around and knowing it is secure in your pocket rather then sending it over the internet for the NSA, Romania and Bulgaria to read. :-o
