Gary's good tunes 700 build

Oh yeah, CD's, I forgot about those. About 400 stare me in face when I walk to my bedroom.

And really, you have a meter?

Lee's scary like that... LOL. Well, good to hear that it arrived at least electrically "ok" enough to be able to fire up and listen to. As far as the shippin incident.. all I gotta say is..

Damn Dirty Apes!!

I think I have an old vid of 'em right here.. (and if you're old 'nuff to remember this one, bonus! LOL)

Yep.....need your old one in trade though. Now you know what we prefer the cabbage case..

I just got back from sandblasting the bezels (since they were out anyway) and thought I'd try the meters again on opposite channels and now, the dead meter shows signs of life. The resistance now measures 73 ohms where before I got OL. The functioning meter has a resistance of 93 ohms.

Think it likely that the one meter is intermittent therefore iffy? if so, I can send it to you on Monday. Your offer to exchange it makes it sound like they can be repaired?

EDIT: forgot to ask - cabbage case?

Not yet, but I don't throw them away...

On the cabbage case, I meant now you know why we prefer to ship them in the cabbage case.....

Still didn't get it so I Google searched cabbage case

Seems it's a brand name. I only have one big enough for a couple of pistols and it's a generic.

Before I pack up the iffy one to send on Monday, I'm going to put the meters back in and see what happens.

Have to say that I've been glued to this amplifier. The tweeters in my speakers seem to have more authority and sound like they're bigger, farther from the woofer, are more of them or something than before.

My astonishment grows.

Yep, them are cabbage cases. I have not had ANY SHIPPING DAMAGE when using a cabbage case..

I hooked the meters back up this morning and would say that the left one is definitely intermittent. For a steady signal, I used a CD with a 30Hz tone (for re-foaming speakers) and the meters did not read equally. The slightest movement of the screw on the front of the intermittent meter makes the needle drop to zero and that does not happen to the other meter.

Lee, please let me know how much to include with the "bad" meter to cover the exchange and return shipping cost.

I'll send it off to you tomorrow.

Will do Gary, I'll get the replacement in the mail tomorrow...

Just sayin' here... Gary's packing scheme was spot on with total isolation once it was all taped up. It had to be one hell of a gorilla move to do any damage. I sure would like to find the punk at Fedex and drop HIM on his head... :laughing7:

Lee, I'll look here in the morning for a reply, but if you've a figure in mind for that meter and shipping, let me know and I'll put it in the box with the intermittent one I'll be sending you tomorrow.

Short answer yes, I took a job out of desperation a few weeks ago. Double the time for half the money but any income is better than no income.

It has nothing to do with the field that took all the time and money to get re-trained for (which really pisses me off) but still looking.

There'll be a couple of 20's in the box for you. I'll be mailing from Canada so it probably won't get to you until next week. The meter you're sending can go to that Sumas address with the account number 20848.
