I have finally started building myself a subwoofer. It's been on the list for 10 years, and I have built subs for lots of other people in the meantime, but just never built myself one. That has changed, and I'm probably about half way there. I have cut most of the MDF and plywood. I have the inner box built pretty much.....still have to add the 2" X 4" bracing for the inside, and have the wood cut for the outside box...except I have to go buy another sheet. Making the inside box 24" by 24" means the outside box has to be 25 12" X 25 1/2" ( actually a fraz over that to allow for the polyurethane glue to do its' thing.. and the veneered ply comes in 48" X 96" sheets....EXACTLY....so it's going to take two sheets of it. I probably should have just doubled up on the 3/4" MDF and veneered the whole thing, but...I thought I'd do it the "easier" way... Yeah, right...
I've attached some pictures to give yu guys an idea of the project..but I'm the world's worst at taking pictures while the is action going on. I always forget until I'm done.. but you will get t idea. I' using a Lambda Acoustics 15" driver, which has an fs of around 24 hz, ad I'm tuning the box to about 27 hz, give or take a hz or two.using two 4"ports flared at both ends, ad each being 17" in length...(on program says I am tuning the box to 17hz, so go figure...maybe someone who knows can tell me...I can't remember how you calculate the port length when using double flares..
Anyway, this is basically the same ub that evin and I built for him, except I think my box is a little larger (deeper) an the driver may be a different model, I'm not positive.. I remember we built hi enclosure a little larger, and it wasn't producing enough thunder, so he cut the box down to a depth to about 22" deep, I think..
Anyway,here are a few pictures., What do you all think?
