Sold

This is a working but cosmetically challenged Sansui 5050 receiver. The dial bulbs need some work, they do work, but I think they are fuse type bulbs and the fuse holders don't make the best contact, consequently some of the dial lights go out from time to time and if you tap on the top of the receiver the lights come back on.

The face plate is in ok condition but as you can see the wood grain vinyl is peeling off the case.

It is a 50 wpc channel receiver. I have tried it out with a cd player and the amp works. I haven't tried the tuner, but I would guess it works too. If it is important I can test it out.

Make me an offer for parts and or the whole thing as I need to reclaim some house space.

Your offer + shipping with your choice of carrier. Unfortunately shipping for the entire receiver could run $30 or more.

I'd want the entire thing...my birthday is in June, I'd like a part of my thirties back. They are swell and mine only cost me $9 with a pair of BIC Venturi Formula 2s, which I'm not cheap enough to ask for so don't sweat and I have another pair of the same BICs already.

I love to see survivor components still in use, John. This morning, I plucked down an old JVC cassette deck from the shelf to give it some exercise.

Beautiful looking 5050! Is that a bird's eye maple finish on the cabinet?

Right on. That's a great reproduction in vinyl.

Looks like Bubinga? Never saw birdseye maple that dark or with that big of whorls. Looks awesome!

You are correct, it is bubinga. I am surprised that the 5050 thru 9090 Sansui's are so popular with their plastic bezels.
They have silver color paint around the edge that gets scratched up. I sanded the paint off and polished the bezel so it is
all black. (Send me a check Sansui)

I'm not refinishing NOTHING! That's gorgeous! I may restore the silver paint to the bezel at some point, and you also just taught me how to deal with that problem on my 221.

Thank you!

PS Unfortunately I doubt Funai will bother and they have nothing to do with the classic Sansui Electric Co. prior to buying it's name and Akai's consumer division.

Listening for second day in a row and it still sounds great. The dial lights do all work, but the fuse holders need to be pinched shut so they don't turn on and go out periodically. IIRC that involves taking the top and front face off and pulling some things out of the way in the dial back. That will have to be the buyers issue to fix. I did replace the dial bulbs a few years ago, but didn't know at the time that the connections were intermittent.

Well another day went by and I listened to the Sansui all day without letting out any magic smoke. :rabbit: I am not sure I should push it too much, but man it does sound nice.

Go ahead and pack her up...I'm going to set Tasuke's speakers aside this weekend as well and fix what I'm running :)

Damn they are nice though! They are going to him via Pony Express with a TH member next month.
