Dual 1019 TT

Hi Guys,

This morning a Dual 1019 TT followed me home (pictures soon). Does anyone know anything about this thing? A quick search appears to have some good things to say much to my surprise. It appears to be in pretty good condition less a couple cracks in the rear of the dust cover.

Robert: I have heard from a few enthusiasts who recommended I add one to a retro 60's 70's system I plan to assemble. It's possible member, Bob Boyer, may have suggested such a tt for me.

Thanks for the link..... I also found manuals for the TT so it looks like it could be restored without much effort. Interesting that an idle wheel drive TT gets some positive reviews, I always thought they were pretty much junk, go figure.

robert there are some pretty nice idler TTs out there. Duals are pretty common should be able to get parts.

Isn't the much sought after Thorens table (the retro looking one) and idler drive? It may even be a multi-idler drive

All tape decks are idler drive, why shouldn't good specs be had by an idler TT??

Why would you do 17 different processes and put monster cables on it?

Although my personal preference is either direct drive or belt drive...

I look at it that the extra idler mechanics and bearing noise can only detract from the quietest possible background.

Hi,

I don't see any reason idle wheel drive can't be made to work well. I guess why I was a bit surprised is that all of the cheapo TT's pretty much had idle wheel drives so it was guilt by association..... Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, must be a duck, right????

My preference has always been direct drive, but then I have never been all that much into TT's.

I'll have to power this table up and see what does or does not happen. Just from the age a guess would be that the rubber parts are shot and the lube would be dry.

I'd love to hear how that 1219 is doing. I've always liked the looks of the earlier Duals and saw them as worthy 'tables especially when not used as changers. At the time, they were just a tad more expensive than the AR XA I bought for my first "real" TT in 1973. I sold the XA and got one of their later DD models in the early 80s. By then, they had gone to plastic bases and such and had a cheaper feel, though the mechanisms seemed to be just as good.

Still, Imma big fan of the 60s and 70s Duals though I've never actually owned one.
