I'm very curious about any tech item

If I have understood the meaning of expression " to wind up with " ( end up ? ) ,
it took me one year to adjust the system .
To have a symmetrical image with sonic hologram on was not easy .
Placing rear speakers was not so difficult .
Exactly I don't rebember because I finished these adjustaments about 25 years ago .
Ciao

No .
I used my ears first and after I was helped by my hifi guru .
The final check was made by some friends of mine that played instruments ( guitar , piano , ecc . )
In my opinion spectrum analyser is more less useless : too many resonance peaks in a normal room.
I also followed Dr. Bose's suggestions to use and move forniture , curtains , lounge , carpet to obtain a
" well sounding " living room.
At the beginning results were very frustrating , but after ,patiently, I obtained a good sound .

Ciao
Marco

Marco, I wasn't refering to a spectrum analyzer, I just wondered if you had measured the frequency response of the pre-amp by itself with any test equipment capable of measuring output level at different frequencies....

I have tested several pre-amps from 10 hertz to 80,000 hertz and they do not all live up to published specifications while others indeed do. Published specifications do not tell you how it will sound but a standard frequency response curve will tell you if it will faithfully reproduce the frequency range at the same level throughout...

I have tested frequency response on C4000 and PL 4000 with a test tone oscillator by Teac ( model TO -8 )
at 400 Hz , 6,3 KHz and and 12,5 KHz at -30 dB and -10 dB using my father's Yamaha 2010 as a voltmeter .
Yamaha's VUs were perfectly adjusted before any measurement .
I haven't seen any problem in this way. This is what I have at home .

Lee ,
at the beginning I have understood that you mean the total frequency response in the room with a multichannel
system ( C 4000 could be considered as the forefather of Dolby Prologic ) . I generally use instrumentation to check
if there is something wrong along signal path .
