Miles: That's quite a collection of headphones you have. For me, if I was to go purposefully hunting for vintage (80's and older) headphones, I would like a pair of Pioneer (I haven't decided on which model, yet) and another pair of AKGs - the K340s. Any of the Stax headphones are priced high - and justifiably so. That would round out my collection.

Im not a big headphones phan. Ive had one set of Sony's for about 20 years. A while back a buddy gave me a set of vintage Pioneer's that my brother currently uses. Pretty much the only serious phones I have ever owned. With that being said, a friend of mine has a set of the noise canceling Bose cans. I honestly didnt mind them. Of course, that was just a quick listen. To make a true evaluation of them, id have to do a long listening session. I also found them to be quite comfortable.
 
I don't have anything against Bose.

In the UK they seem to have a reasonably high profile. Their success is probably due to (fairly) slick advertising geared towards general consumers as opposed to audiophiles.

With working professionally in studio's and at radiostations a pair of cans is not something you simply use to enjoy music, it is a serious tool you have to rely on.
That's the main reason I began to collect them because I think every type of headphones has it's own characteristic sound which can be helpfull (or sometimes not) with working on different kinds of music.

Good points Miles. Im more, an open air listener. The more I can feel the sound the better. Live music being my favorite. I dont have anything against phones, just not my preferred choice of recreational listening.

I have a set of Micro Seiko headphones made by Stax.

Anybody is welcome to post anything here provided it is audio/music related.

The current flavour is AKG and as a result, I now know more about their headphones than I did before. It is all good. :)
 
I have at least eight pairs myself. I built a headphone tree from scrap lumber for them.

Nobody gave me my best fitting pair, Sony MDR-P1, which were introduced around 1990?

I meant 16-24 oz cans of COURSE.

A good number of my 'phones are in disrepair and right now that includes my Pioneer SE-30 and 50s :(
