I never thought of him as a funny man in that series. I think they had him in there so you wouldn't stare at Valleri or Mackensie for the entire half an hour. Heck in those days even Bonnie Franklin was pretty hot.

Never got into that show so only saw a few episodes, usually while I was at someone else's place. Wasn't he always trying to get into Mom's pants?
