Hard to beat AMT's. Very natural and open sounding without the harshness. Those and EMITs are tops in my mind.

Wow this takes me back. In the mid 90’s I was flipping through gear having the upgrade-itis. (Guess I never completely shook that..). Anyway I went from Boston Acoustics VR30’s (employee purchase), to Dahlquist DQ-10’s, then to Magnepan (MG IIIa I Think).
Had plenty of power with a Nakamichi PA7.
The DQ-10’s were fun but I really wanted that Maggie experience at the time.
Sold it all between a divorce and another marriage.

I moved my DQ-10s into the shop and like em better out there, they have room to breathe. They sound great with the BGW 250B/Carver C1
