Hi Lee
You can achieve a higher L to DCR ratio with inductors wound with either square wire or foil. Same tricks are used in very high current transformers.

Well as Popeye says....

"I hads all me can stands, and I cant stands no more!"

The new caps sounded so gawd-awful, I extracted the old ones from the trash can and put 'em back in...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... now that's better! Seriously, the Daytons really made the CV's sound anemic and harsh all at the same time.

Bah, Phooey... well it was an experiment.. heheh... Maybe when I get my courage up again I'll go for the full boat - drivers and a crossover. It's all fun... experimenting and whatnot. :thumbright:

Sorry to hear that Jer. I have GE mylars in a lot of mine and they perform well and sound nice. It is one of those things you have to try and listen to to tell if it is a good change or not.

air core are more linear inductors Lee, much larger than iron or ferrite core but used in all higher end crossovers. You run into the saturation limits on iron core inductors (the B-H curve) which is not an issue for air core inductor.

Ferromagnetic materials are used to keep inductor size down in most applications.
