Hi all,
After work on Friday, I dropped into a used goods stores called "Pearl's Seconds." Just a day prior, there were a pair of speakers I had intended to purchase, but ran out of time as the store was closing. I thought the speakers would be there the next day, so I didn't bother to have them set aside. But, I guess someone else saw the value in them, and the speakers were gone by the time I returned the next day. I don't know whether that worked in my favour, or not, as the speakers I had first seen were a pair of nice Pioneer CS-53s of the late 60's early 70's vintage. They are a two way, two speaker system with 12" woofer and 3.5" tweeter.
It wasn't long ago I also found a nice Sanyo JCX 2400K receiver at the same place. (http://forums.phxaudiotape.com/showthread.php/3943-Sanyo-JCX-2400K-Receiver).
When I see a few stereo components trickle in of the same decade, I begin to wonder what else might be coming. It's even possible the Sanyo receiver I bought for $20 might have powered the Pioneer CS-53 and Criterion 150A speakers in the previous owner's system. All of these are in fine shape. All the more reason to think they were from the same owner. So, with the Pioneers already gone, I see the Criterion 150As where the Pioneers had once been sitting. I didn't bother to even pop the grilles off to see whether the speaker surrounds were intact. Judging by the condition of these speakers, I just felt they were well taken care of during the past 35+ years. I scooped them up for $15 and that's when I found out from the cashier that the Pioneer CS-53s had sold earlier that same day. All I can say, is I am happy to have added these for a future system. I have a boxed, unassembled walnut pair of speaker stands that will look fabulous with the Criterions atop them.
And the audio clip I provided earlier in another post. The Criterions are Speaker B selected on the Sanyo receiver:
