A little rusty (ey .. been years and no micro!), but .. they're on. The one on the right was the first - had to do a lil repair to it, but both check out with a meter.

Getting late, so tomorrow we'll give 'er a shot!

One does not criticize if one can not do better... good Jer..
Thanks Lee. I miss those big ole binocular microscopes we had in the Nav. Trick is to pretreat the pads with JUST enough new solder..then when you got the "bug" square on 'em, nail it on two corners then the rest is pretty easy. Had to re-learn that LOL.

'Nuff for tonight.. TV/Veg time... and if that goddamn dog next door starts barking, I swear I'm going through with buying one of these... (sumbitch... he's like a damn rooster... ). I figure lil popcorn kernels can't kill 'im... :smokin:

Air pump BB gun. Hollow out a pellet with a .050 hole in it and adjust pumps accordingly....

Got another plan "on order".. Will know if it works in a couple days... in the meantime I have moved the garbage pails I punched a hole in last night at 130am to another location...
Yeah, a wrist rocket is more than powerful enough to seriously injure/ kill a small animal. Takes a while to dial in accuracy, too.

Yeah... no sense hurting the dog when it's not his fault. Seriously.. it was lower than 14 the other night when that owner left him out. Can't do anything about that, which sucks... Dogs are social and meant to have their own pack/companions and not just left out in the back yard alone all night.

Some people shouldn't be allowed to own dogs.

Not sure how we test for that...

Good, Bad n UGLY...

Ok so first off... RCA4156's are different from RCA4136's (daggone dyslexia maaan...). I was double checking the schematic and I noticed the +20 was on pin 4... got me suspicious. Checked one of the BD's I did last night.. nope... pin 4 on the adapter definitely did not go to any of the V pins on either of the bugs.

4156's.. which is what is in the 3000.. follow the more common pinout. The 4136's ... those need the BD adapter.

So THEN.. hmmm... I realized I still had a couple of quads laying around. Both of those were straight through DIP to SOIC adapters where I had mounted OPA 4134's (quad equivalent of OPA 2134). Ok.. COOL.. the 4134's have decent specs, so what the heck.. plopped those in, in place of Z8 and Z9 (basically the main output buffer and involved in the tone control circuits).

Scoped it.. metered it.. yeah.. nothing going to blow.. let's give it a shot...

Put it in front of my 400. Remember this is the bassid child I've been beating on (no worries Kev, THIS is why we're NOT experimenting on yours). Listening a little bit. Hmm.. ok.. yeah doesn't sound too bad. But also the noise to me seemed a little higher than it should be. NO big deal... I have other options for quad op amps, now that the pinout is more standard.

BUT THEN...

On the 3000's there is a tone defeat, which punches in and out the bass n treble controls. Up until this point I've had the controls out / defeat "on". Punched in the tone controls....

KEEEERRRPOOOOWWWW!!!!!! ZAP BAM BOOM!!!!!

So said my speakers. Blew one of the rail fuses on the 400. Yiiikeeess!!! Could be something with the amp I yanked out of a container.. dunno.. gotta troubleshoot 'er.

Well, ok... I gotcha there "tron gods"... Lessons are...

1. A "3" is different than a "5"

2. Put the damn pre through some more tests before trying it with an amp

3. Damn if that WOPL can't take a beating. Just a fuse.. no worse for wear, which is cool!

Hmmm... guess I gotta go put some deoxit on Kev's potential 3000...

Yo Lee!

I just noticed that one of those you had sent had something rattling around in 'er. Opened it up - on the backside of the board was a small electrolytic cap with a resistor in parallel, with heat shrink around it. Any idea where it might need to go / where it came from?

Agreed. I am disgusted by people who treat their dogs as an afterthought. Give 'em up to people that actually want them. That dog would be gone if I was the neighbor and they wouldn't need to look very far to find him, cuz he'd be on my couch keeping warm and getting spoiled.

Amen Doug, it may sound hypocritical after what I posted but that's really how I feel, as you do...

There was a service bulletin on that. Something about upping the voltage to the relay coils....

Broken beyond repair but highly affable

2 where they'd normally be.... all "native" tape loops, filters, whatever had a relay "gone"... then up and down through the NR loop (usually jumpered on the back) and onto the vol/tone controls (defeatable) and finally the output amp...

pretty much.. yeah.

The ot..her config this would work for would be if I substituted a dbx 200 or 400 program route selector for the EQ. I had one of those (hmm.. do I still.. gotta go look) but it did degrade things a lil.. to my ears, anyway...
Ummmm...in case you're still looking, it's in OREGON.

PS I'm still going to get me two Sony SB-300s from a friend for extras.
