What DAC are you using that is so good Larry? I think I asked before what you recommend, but don't know if I ever got a specific brand and model number. I'd love to try a DAC in my system, but know nothing of the brands and models that are IT. If I try one, I'd like to get a decent one.
Another question....How do you by-pass the DAC in a unit like the Onix?
If you could give me a brand and model number I would appreciate it. If you could give several examples, and rate their performance, that would be excellent. Thanks in advance, Larry.

You have a digital output that bypasses everything but the transport. I have hooked up DACs to the Shanling and nothing happend. So I leave the Shanling alone. Till I get a DAC that will improve it. I'm not shopping so it will be awhile.

See I don't mind throwing money for better sound. The AA gear would not improve the Onix. The PT gear did.. The AA gear improved the GF gear. How do I recommend something. Where Digital is concerned it is a hit and miss. I recommended the Oppo. For the going price it is a very good deal. My recommendation is buy a Shanling if you can find one. Expect to pay over 1000.00 used. I would go to retail of 2000.00 if I found one and had the money. I would have one in every system. I have not heard your gear on my system so I have no idea what to recommend.

Ya know Larrt, there is some validity to that. I was pretty happy with the Spec stuff. Rode it hard and put it away wet for 30 years. Was tickled with my BPC CD player, then I started fixin the PL stuff. There was enough difference in sound I kinda woke up, and between you and some others here, I have started the journey to audio nirvana. What a long strange trip it's been, and it's only money, so light that one up homey!!

PS, you did catch me totally by surprise with the Tara Lab IC's. I was thoroughly convinced I would hear NO DIFFERENCE!! Was it 5 or 10 minutes after I hooked em up that I ordered 10 more pair??
