I have only found one open bay Yamaha. It took me awhile to get a working one. Tapes to me should sound better than the CD.There should be more warmth less digital.

Ah so its a Yamaha? Very Cool.

I like the idea of going vinyl to tape vs vinyl to CD. However for passive listening while I'm working, I find an iPhone plugged into my stereo playing Pandora very satisfying too. Sacrilege?

Joe, that black one is the mighty Tandberg 3014-A from Norway, under it is the Aiwa XK-9000S, both are superb decks, they belong to member Braxus, some folks swear the Tandberg is the top of the heap soundwise, I've never heard one in a shootout. Nando's Esoteric and my Teac would both be right up there, you really are splitting hairs with the TOTL's from back then, it starts to be more about looks and features at that point.

I love how you just got in there and 'Got 'er done' with the Pio, great pics too!

A pic of my Teac, 4 PLL quartz DD motors, plus 1 for the door  . One of the capstan motors is having an intermittant problem folding the tape during play  , way beyond my scope to put right, but we have so many good techs here, it'll be back up to snuff soon :thumbright:

Nice deck stuwee! I'm always a bit scared buying used source equipment, it's the first thing go.

I wasn't expecting much from this deck, but there is something romantic about the experience and the sound that has grabbed my attention

It is addicting for sure.To tell how crazy I am.I was just searching and found a deck in the UK that wasn't sold in the states. I bought it.Then came the adapter for the AC. I forget what I paid for it.LOL

Hi Joe,

Those pictures I posted were from an article I wrote following a Cassette Deck Shootout held at Innovative Audio in March of this year. You can view the article here, with other links provided by Gordon in Innovative Audio's site:

http://www.iavscanada.com/art_cassette_shootout.htm

I, only, offer it as proof, that regardless of the notoriety some cassette models have gained via magazine-hype, it's your ears that will be the deciding factor. You'll see some interesting results.

And while recording and playing tapes, this is my favouite past time. Critical listening always requires the right mood. So, join the club, Joe!

Nando, it looks like you are doing your impression of the "Is it live or is it Memorex?" commercial.

Hi Web,

Those pictures were taken by Geri during the Traveling Guitar Tape recording session. I do break out the wine or other spirits, only after I've recorded my tracks and I'm reviewing the mix. I might look serious in those pictures, but I do enjoy participating in Traveling Tapes, especially.

Nice stack Nando! It looks like your using a big screen stand for the gear? I've been looking for some sort of rack and that is what I've been spying mainly because i think it will fit odd size gear better.

Hi Joe,

That CT-F9191 is a gem! I had been using mine in a downstairs bedroom for some time, but I packed it away last year when it was getting a bit tight maneuvering around the room without taking a kneecap out on the small stereo stand.

The stand you see pictured in our master bedroom was specifically bought for my stereo equipment. I wanted tempered, tinted glass shelving and chrome supports. It also needed to support a minimum of 300 lbs. on each shelf. The plasma or LED TV will be on a wall mount above the stand. The pre-wiring was done when I rebuilt the bedroom and it's 3/4" plywood screwed to the studs where the TV wall mount will be.

I'm glad you eventually found the correct power switch for your cassette deck. I hope we helped inspire you, but you seem to be quite self-motivated, unlike...

I think I really lucked out on the physical condition of this deck, it's pretty cool to look at. The switch was from an eBay seller who was parting out a CTF1000. It's of course absolutely identical as you had pointed out.

I've been working on kitchen table projects like this off and on for almost 2 years now of varying degrees of intensity. Once I start I'm pretty tenacious about the resolve and find I the end result to be personally rewarding.

You all have definitely given me some inspiration here - Thank You!

Thanks Stuwee, Ialmost bought another!

And now for a Nando inspired pic. Although it's not nearly as nice as his setup, it's an improvement for me.

I originally had a small desk in there as this was going to be a "computer" room....yeah right. I took the tables out of the mudroom, they were from a closed retail store but they work for now.

Joe; Hey, I had the computer desk/stereo stand set-up at one time, too. Before, I decided to rebuild the master bedroom, I had a hodge-podge of tables: antique furniture for a turntable stand, a combination of end tables, and high-back dining chairs for raising the Pioneer HPM-100 and CS-66e speakers off the floor, and more. It was all temporary, until I could reconfigure my system after the room was completed. I think your system looks good as it is set-up.

That's just beautifull Joe! I wish I had some nice hardwood floors instead of this damn tile everywhere

And you have Boston Acoustic 150's :thumbleft: I love those. I made Mom get some 100's, she couldn't swing the bigger ones. One of my customers had those Snell's I tried to get him to bring them over so I could give them a listen, but he moved to Flagstaff.

Thanks guys.

The A150's always circulate back in as they do a lot of good things in this small room. I re-foamed them not too long ago. Nice soundstage, imaging and tonal balance at lower levels.

The CIV's are nice but a bit more challenging. Fun with dynamics but a bit more fatiguing on some material. They sound better biamped, especially with tube-top/SS bottom. But it's more complex and heat generating then I care for.

Joe
