My first attempt at acrylic sheet fabrication. I made a dust cover for an old record changer. The glued edges came out a little boogery, but for a project done with whatever I had on hand (apart from buying glue and plastic sheets) I think it came out rather well:

It certainly matches the quality of the table......would super glue create less over run?

Very well produced video Mark. I see the reason for the UV glue now. Very resourceful of you....

The working time for super glue is very short and may coagulate before I got the plastic aligned correctly. I probably should have painted the cement on with a small paintbrush.

Yeah... quality! Hey, a boogery project for an old antique! WTH, the whole thing was impromptu...

Mark, You did a great job buddy for what you had to work with.
Gluing up thin Acrylic is a real pain, and I'm not sure what that Lazer glue is all about. There are special solvents on the market
made for bonding Acrylic. We make up our own blend that we use for bonding 1/8'' thick sheet all the up to
2" thick. You can't break loose one of our bonds. The Acrylic will break first. Just like a good "tig weld" on metal.
Making a perfect bubble free glue joint and with no "squeeze out" ain't easy.
Loved the video man and your use of the toothpicks.... Genius!!
If you ever decide to build another, give me a shout and I'll give you with some pointers,
cheers,
mike

Thanks- and it's a one-off, doubt that I'll ever do another. I'm one of those "whatever I can scavenger together" kind of craft/hobbyists. I'm capable of some outlandish shit!

Jeez! Thanks for the comments, guys! I didn't expect this kind of response! I see a lot of old (not necessarily good, but usable) turntables at flea markets and thrift shops without a cover, and I'm sure that there's a lot of people without dustcovers out there. I've seen original Glaser-Steers covers and bases for standalone use (most of these were plopped into console stereos...) and the prices were ridiculous. The whole project was about a 15¢ less than $30, plus the 6-pack of Coke Zero and the leftover window screen channels from a house fixup...

EDIT: I should have recorded the counterweight project for my PL-L1000...
