Carver 4000t Preamp rework/rebuild

My appoligies on this subject. I had two C4000, on gold trim and one gun metal. They had two different time delay times. I switched the gold face plate and knobs onto the gun metal one which had the shorter delay time and then sold the longer delay time unit, now gun metal one. I had in my mind it was a c4000t but now see there were two different offerings of the c4000. So the C4000t is quite different. I will stick to the c4000 over the c4000t. I currently have two gold face c4000 units. I plan to redo one this winter as per upgrades listed in this forum

No such thing as a C 4000t

C 4000 or a 4000t

Just a suggestion. Are you familiar with liquid freon cleaners like these?View attachment 29842

They may make your task a lot easier.

That shit will kill ya. The military has already pulled it. The ruby red is an approved method for cleaning connectors and it wont kill ya. Plus you can use it to erase the 4 letter words off the letter you were writing grandma from prison.... winner winner chicken dinner.

New 4000t is here and I'm gonna open her up shortly. Power supply is first in line for a rebuild.

Couldn't wait, openend her up and just like me, UNMOLESTED... Nary a spec of dust or fly fart inside......... Very happy

Bro, when I get to lazy to step up to the stereo, shoot me. I don't even use the remote for the Acurus....

Now THAT, is some cheap shit from "Cina"

Well, about finished. 2 straight days of jamming to get her recapped/reworked and detailed. I'll start testing tomorrow. After a good scrubbing, I only found a scratch on the top, and a nick at the top of the faceplate. SCORE...

Nice grab Perry and good looking preamp, now you can lend me the Acurus so I can see if it's really near as good as the Perreaux!

I can, but then you got to sell it for me.... My credit card payment is due before the wife gets home from Minneapolis..... :sleepy3:

Oh yeah, this Carver 4000T is as quiet as a church mouse. This sounds bad ass. I pulled a bunch of stuff and rearranged the stereo....

The Acurus RL-11 (near mint) and the DBX-1bx (mint) is going up on the auction block tonight.

Working on an other Carver 4000t
After the regular upgrades I put it back together.
Went to power up but no power through the transformer

after some farting around I came to discover the schematic is incorrect

this unit has a dual winding for 120 and 240
First one I’ve had

so if you follow the manual you join the black/ white and Violet /white together and the solid black and violet together for 120

no go

so I pulled the pates loos and checked continuity and had open circuit

i desoldered the pairs and checked black to black/white as well as the violet to violet/ white
They are open

so I checked violet to violet / white and got 160 ohms
Same for black

ok simple enough just wire them as tested

here is the question
Do you pair the black/ with violet/ white or black/ white with violet

reversing these would have the windings either working together
Or opposed

anyone had this???IMG_4350.png

ant tricks or thoughts before I go blindly joining them

will output Change if wiring reversed????????

Well I’m going to try black with black/ white along with violet and violet / white paired first the mix them up and check out voltage change on the dc side

Two blacks paired against the two violet comes up nicely
Will go with this arrangement
