I'm looking at the Music Hall behind me. I could do that. What wood would you use? Shoot it with a few coats of lacquer.

Hi Larry,

You mention lacquer and rosewood.... I am not so sure lacquer will stick as I believe rosewood has oils in it's cell structure.

I'll check. Yes but if that were the case what finish would work? The interior guys use to hand rub lacquer on several different woods for the private jets. It did look very good.

Hi Larry,

I checked on rosewood. It does have oils which makes it harder to finish. If you wipe with denatured alcohol and then coat with a wax free shellac as a base. Now use a finish that bonds to the shellac and you should be Ok.

I guess one could also use an oil finish and omit the above steps.

Thanks. I do learn things. We use to use a water base finish as a base to fill in the grain. To get smooth finishes. Can't remember what it was. Then we used other finishes. A hand rubbed finish will look like glass. It is just like a piano finish.
