Building a Roon Digital Audio System

They cater to pro audio not so much home audio. Their amps have speakon connectors not binding posts…

Indeed, their ADC 16 converter (16 channels of 24/192 A>D conversion ) and ADC 1 stereo converters are things of sonic beauty, even if discontinued. I think Vintage King still has a couple of ADC 16s in stock if you're so inclined.

THe principles in the article apply, although this was an article on use in power supplies. The likely reason for the ferrites on the RCA inputs, I am guessing, has more to do with suppression of digital noise produced inside the DAC from becoming conducted and radiated EMI outside of the box caused by the digital electronics inside the box. Not uncommon.

I decided to repair my Ayre C5xe CD player transport. Even though I have all CD's ripped to a roon music server, I still wanted the ability to play SACD's and have a reference player in the system.

The loading tray opened and closed intermittently. The transport is the weak link in this otherwise very high quality player.

After several days researching online, I discovered that Ayre used a Pioneer transport common with the Elite DV-45A DVD player.

I scored a relatively good condition DVD player on eBay and began the transplant.

The build quality, component selection, and overall design comparison between high volume consumer electronics and equipment produced by a small bespoke US company is striking.

Specifically, Ayre completely separates analog and digital power supplies all the way back to the IEC socket. Separate air core inductors feeding separate massive transformers for analog outputs and digital processing.

Lots of WIMA film caps everywhere.

I now have a fully functioning reference CD player back in the system!

Biggest source of noise in digital stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised to find they tested the transformer orientation in the chassis as well to reduce noise.

Only thing better is an external box for all AC components.

I've sorta had it with my CD players. I'm probably gonna just rip everything and put it on a raspi with a little touch screen or headless and control with my laptop.....

It all sounds wonderful on the surface.

How many libraries have been lost to failures of equipment or service providers…

I’ll keep my media thanks.

And in this case the whole world can see it coming. I often thought why some things in history could not be stopped .....
Well, getting a front row seat to that little answer now...

Or dieties....

Now there is an understatement Lee... :-)
