Broken eBay 700B - Now what?

COOL BABB Doug!! And the hold down too!! Yeah the teflon takes some sharp strippers. Some Kline "katapult" are good...

Thanks. I picked up a set today. I've never used this style of stripper, but the old stripper I was using needs to be replaced.

You can't beat a good stripper - sometimes you just have to replace your old one. Here's a good model.

That is a perfect avatar and ass... just saying though I certainly like your current one

Why are there capacitors on the legs of the rectifier? Should I put them on my PL400/II?

They help reduce/soften the snap off noise produced by bridge diodes when conducting in the forward direction and then turning off when going into reverse bias.

What are their values (capacitance/voltage)? They're not electrolytic, so no polarization, right?

Not that critical except for type and voltage. Value between 0.01 and 0.022uF, voltage 400V minimum, type is polyester film.

This is what I used. From my local supplier:

Its funny how big that cap used to be. I've got some mylar caps from about 1961 in service yet, and they are easily 5x that size for the same kind of value and voltage. On the other hand, they are still fine. Tough dielectric mylar is.
