Bob's 4 WOPL 400 builds

Well I have to say that this is my first forum post ever. At 57 and all the years I've spent gleaning info from various forums, you would think that I would have contributed by now. Anyways, after doing a significant amount of research into how I wanted to restore four PL400 Series 1 amps that i acquired I decided to go with Joe's White Oak upgrade with the control board, back planes board, meter lighting and cap upgrade kits. I must say that Joe has done a fantastic job on the boards and kit organization. The attention to detail in part descriptions and very easy to understand instructions made the assembly of the boards go very smooth. What Joe could not put in the kits of course was the skill level needed to do the work such as soldering and the test equipment to do the final checks and adjustments. For me, all has gone well so far but I have a ways to go. As stated in prior posts, this is very time consuming but well worth it. These are for myself so of course I'm going all out.

Also got to spend the day with Ed yesterday. What a treat. Learned a lot more about audio and Phase Linear. Ed really should write a book or something on the history of Phase Linear. Very meticulous when it comes to Phase Linear or anything for that matter. Has a real love for the product. He also had a lot of good things to say about a few of you guys on this forum. Will post some pics of the build in a little bit.

I, too stumbled into this forum some years ago, still on the search for audio nirvana. At that time I was using Bryston gear, but had fond memories of the Phase Linear components I had decades ago, in college. I had been looking at the prices on eBay, but knew that my Phase Linear amp visited the Stereo Repair shop every time I came home to visit my parents. After discovering Joe's work redesigning the PCB, and Don's work in designing a DC protection circuit, I was all in. I have now sold all the Bryston gear, and have way too many Phase Linear amps (you can't really have too many) Klipschorns, Onix CDP's and all the other gear I discovered through the wonderful members here. This is the best audio forum on the internet...and the people here are some of the best on the planet. Glad you are here !!

When your Phase Linear amps are up and running, you in in for the treat of a lifetime. I don't think there is another amplifier on the planet that can touch them....especially with the latest revision and the backplanes running full complimentary.... U N R E A L ! ! !

Welcome audiobob....seems when Ed and I talk on the phone it's between 2 and 3 hours...at a minimum. Now that he's retired I hope he does write a book on Phase Linear history. Wondered if you were going to post. Like they say......pics or it didn't happen....

Hi All, thanks for the warm welcomes. Boy I know what you mean Sutton. Back in the late 70s and early 80s it seemed like all my friends could talk about was Phase Linear this and Phase Linear that. Well having been in the military at the time all anyone really invested in was hifi equipment so I was able to go to various rooms and listen to the different systems that the guys would buy and the one I always liked best at the time was the PL. I had all Pioneer equipment which sounded good but my favorite was my buddy's PL system with Klipsch speekers (can't remember the model). I'm very excited about getting these done and set up.

And about Bruce Jenner, he's way out there... A bit confused I would say.

And Lee, theres no dought you and Ed have spent some time on the phone LOL. He talked highly of ya.

Well not too far off Lee. Its a Weller WTCPS station with a TC201 iron and a #8 fine point tip. Gets right in there.
