BD, you and I have an all together different Idea about what I know about compressor/limiters, which I know very little. I am getting to know a bit about a PL amp though............

I was trying to get my wife to compress my limiter - but alas not tonight!
 
Well there's your problem Nav!!! She's supposed to limit your compressor, jeez.......

you guys have got it all wrong...
you need to turn the dial the OTHER way, for expansion mode, then set the ratio to infinity, and then when you hear the words "oh my God" being screamed out at you, you'll know you've reached the limit.
trust me, I know stuff about this sh*t!

I've met my match - that seriously cracked me up. I'm in awe master G (spot).

That reminds me of the time when I came home early one night, and my g/f (ex now) was sitting at the table surrounded by several of her g/f's having a girl's night.
Well, needless to say, that all of 'em were real honeys, and me being the mischievous one decided to sit in, (much to her horror as she knew the conversation would only end up going the one way, and that was straight to the gutter....)
Well after a glass of wine round the table, it didn't take long before the girls had loosened up enough, for me to find how broad minded some of these chicks were, and so we eventually got to talking about sex and the wine soon loosened any inhibitions they may have had, as we were talking about everything. So I asked, ".... so where's YOUR G-spot", to each of them, and NONE of 'em knew. Total shock! So I felt compelled to educate them. (oh sh*t, I can't see my keyboard with all these tears from laughing while I'm trying to type this) Anyway I convinced all of 'em that it was up their ass, (I'll say that word 'cause I'm not allowed to say a*se in this thread - yet). After another round of drinks I had ALL of them begging to show them how it's done. BUT, the sad moral of this story is that my g/f wouldn't let me, so we ended up talking about which was the best clothing shop instead.
The best part was that later during the night, four of them had slipped me their phone number without my g/f knowing, but I never followed up, of course.
But sh*t we had some laughs. Even my g/f told me later that she's never laughed so much ever, and after all, she did make up for not having it on with seven of her g/f's a tad later. Ah the good ol' days....
(BIG SIGH) Just thought I'd share that one....
 
BD, must have been a hell of a woman to make up for the 7 that were missed!!!!

I'm laughing my ass off! My neighbor and I are good friends, I only have 1 neighbor, the other side is a garage and a pool, very lucky for a 24 unit complex. Anyways if he is nice to me and asks me to turn it down I do. One day he was aggressive and I went out of my way to hook up an extra amp & 12 inch drivers, then let it rip. His cutlery was rattling in his kitchen sink, and my smoke alarm managed to fall out of the roof. Then he said he was joking...was a good prank.

Must have some crazy neighbors there. I remember back in my early 20's I lived in an apartment complex, did not give a damn and made all sorts of rackets with poor quality audio gear 3am@3/4 volume, got a letter in the mail eventually in small font with NUISANCE in large bold font "section such and such blah blah". Funny how you change as you get older and become more considerate of others & less stubborn. I moved all my belongings out except the audio gear and on the last day put the speakers up against the walls facing out and caused a mini earthquake, in other words "next time have a quiet word with me instead of going behind my back and stirring up the landlord" HA!

Oh how I can relate to all of that.
I've worked all my life blowing my head off with live music, and when I get home, the last thing I want is to be in a noisy environment.
Although, hang on, I tell a lie. First I'd play the 'gig tape', then I'd have it nice and quiet. But then, come to think of it, I used to use my headphones a lot too....
Damn, I don't know what I did any more!!!!
..... but yes anyway, Derek, I know exactly wot you mean.
I remember when Cerwin Vega brought out their W Bins for the Movie Earthquake, so of course I got a few of them, and honestly, you really could reproduce an earthquake! Did lots of damage with those.... LoL
As far as this place is concerned, a little bit of loud music every now and then, and the occasional Express Train does help to quieten down the noises from people beating each other up, the screaming kids, the drunks, and the Garbage truck. You should hear THAT? The rumble (50Hz-80Hz) within my lounge room from when they wheel the dumpster in and out of the building is 100dB exactly, at 30 metres!!!! Howzat????
So when management complain, I just complain back.......
I'm planning on throwing a microphone out the window, and taking a feed back into my 'stereo' and then phase reversing it at 50Hz-80Hz, just to see if I can cancel it out through my sub. It's a thought....

I'm in Melbourne.
I can't sleep at nights so am generally up 'till day break. I kept hearing these voices, then found out that they weren't in my head but they're actually coming from the appt above me. So now I'm used to staying up all night.

I get intense fatigue after being up around 7-8 hours every damn day, sometimes its too much to bear so I just go to bed, that's why I am up now, trying to get a job so it forces me into a routine, maybe things will come good after that. Will have some cash to buy tapes and audio gear then =). I have never lived near crazy people keeping me awake at night, would drive me nuts, fire up those woofers when you can, teach them a lesson!

No, turning it up is not the solution.
I'm convinced it can all be done with noise cancelation techniques.
Using little speakers out of phase to the original sound on the offending wall, but you'd need some type of gain follower, eg a DBX119 in Expander mode.
