Audio Precision ATS-1DD Analyzer

Seller is near me. I know of no McIntosh + Nagra tech in Nashville....very strange story indeed. He may service pro audio only?
If any of you guys want to measure stuff, I have a Sound Technology 1700 and 1200 combo for $600 or best offer. They don't produce pretty pictures or print outs, but they are the audio test standards. No load resistors included!

I tried to bid on a HP 8903B and when it got over $500 I backed off. It went for $577. I'll get one some day. I like the Sound Technology gear and your price is good. If I could ONLY find a $100 bill laying around...

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They recommend an 8 hour acclimation after shipping in winter before power up. That's ok, been to the electronics store. Got some XLR, RCA, and BNC connectors. Gotta make some cables.

In person a very impressive unit. Fit and finish are first class, controls and buttons feel .........expensive.

Hookay. Anybody know what the preferred gauge of wire would be in test cables?? The owners manual suggests a shielded cable , balanced or unbalanced depending on what is being tested. Shielded cables I have in abundance, different conductor numbers, gauges, cu ratings etyc. Any suggestions?

I would use very flexible mic cable for the line level cables. It makes it much easier to shift the unit around on the bench. Speaker wire can be 16ga. I have several terminations: dual bannana, bare wire, DIN, and cheapie RCA.

Thanks Doc. This has XLR, banana and BNC. Not a bad combo.

Went to Office Depot yesterday and got a roll around cart for the analyzer..........oh and a keyboard with more room between the keys.

Lee,

I am very curious as to the output of these old PL's with upgrades into 4 ohms. Do you have the output resistors you need to measure this?????

Verey cool to measure output with these. You can be in THD & N mode and watch the distortion and tell exactly when it clips. The Series II I'm working on went at 312, 313 into 8 ohms.

Hi Lee,
That is a sweet looking unit- even has a power switch on front so it may be newer than mine.
This is what I use all the time to work on decks- the sweep function is great. I bought mine in 1996 and it was $5029 new. Once you get used to it you will zoom through alignments and other stuff as well. It was great stuff to get but it is priced a little out of range of most people.

Sam thank you, I appreciate you commenting. I just last night made it too the analog tape applications, and I gotta say whoever designed these knew what they were doing. It is built to test, period. I was amazed at how extensive the test and alignment of an open reel deck was. The ability to insert any industry db unit of measurement is above and beyond. After reading that section some things that Nakoc had said about the db reference level made a lot more sense.

Sam this one was built in 2000, and last calibrated in 2008 by Kandel Electronics in Oreland, Pa., for Nagra USA in Gallatin, Tn.

I was stumbling around AP's website the other day and found this, it will undoubtably save a hundred e-mails to Joe.

And Jani, bless her heart, printed all 171 pages, put em in those plastic page protectors and then in a three ring binder with the fancy covers and spines.

That hand book is fine thing to reference if you do any testing at all. It is a free dowwnload at Audio Precision's website, takes 2 minutes to register is all.
