I doubt it. It was engineering's job to build as much of a beast as the accounting department would allow, while the marketing department was free to dream up any lies that would stimulate sales. :smokin:

The circuit breaker will go before you hurt the topsides, the woofs however , if you're like me will have oversize fuses to stop the "nusiance" blowing of fuses. You can tell on a D9 when the woofs are starting to hurt, ther'll be a little "crack" in the sound on the peaks, that means you're awfully close. Monitor voice coil temps too, In a cab that's tough, but I pulled my woofs right quick a couple times just out of curiosity and they can get mighty warm and still live. It's wise to let em cool down for 5 minutes after pushing the envelope just like my K's.

That's what my 12's do. The only thing that irritates me about my CV's is when I start to really push them, you can hear the tweeters shutdown. Then just lower the volume a hair and they come right back online. Wish they would take more but it only happens with certain CD's. Other times, the woofs will "crack" but the tweeters are still singing. I guess I should not complain, I have abused these CV's pretty hard and they are still singing with nothing blown up

Lee, you have any Frank Marino? CRANK the hell out of "Sister Change" or "Hey, Little Lover" and see if your D9's "crack" a little sooner then expected LOL

I get a warning on the Elites in the form of lighted XO. When the lights start to come on its not long after they will trip. Never any audible alerts though. They keep going until the breaker trips. And it takes a lot to make those lights come on.

Jason, most people don't know about Marino. Guitar players are his biggest fans. I am sure once Lee gives him a listen, it will pique his interest. Albums I recommend to anyone are Tales of the Darkside, Live, Child of the Novelty, Maxoom etc... very Hendrix like but with a very distict sound that is all Marino. WAAAYYYY better production and in all honesty, better guitar playing though Hendrix fans will protest. As a guitar player myself, I recognize Frank is a much better guitar player then Jimmy is but who knows what Hendrix would have come out with had he lived
 
Onwe weekend I tri-amped the K's with a 700 on the woofs, a 400 on the mids and a sweet little Kenwood integrated on the tweets, a 700 on the D9's, and a 400 on each pair of Heresies I had at the time. The heresies were on top of the horns, the D9's right in front. It was as loud as anything I've heard in a home environment. The police and I were in dis agreement on the SPL's though. I got an SPL meter from the Larrt soon after but never had that combination to duplicate that again. One pair of Heresies went to my Son, the other to my nephew and the D9's are 8 miles west of town in a Bud's system.
 
Back when my first 1801 blew up I used to rent amps from a music center in town. Typically for long weekends parties etc.. They messed up one weekend and ran out of AP800's so they gave me a Yorkville AP4040.....4000 watts. Thing was retarded. Trip the breaker on our shop panel. Would have to fire up all the equipment while the breaker was off then throw the breaker to power up. Unfortunately my Elite 401's were not quite big enough for that amp.

Should have rented a set of these.

Yorkville Elite EX1000's, A few steps up from my Elite 401's. They sure can take some juice. Heard a few times at outdoor events. The handle on top is so you can roll em. They are on casters at the back end.
