No such things as bad days, just bad moments
Since I am of a different faith, I was not planning on having an Akai R2R but a sickly black GX4000D crossed my path that needed rehabilitating. It's much better now but needs one of those 7" metal reels with the name "Akai" printed on it to get back it's self esteem. Anyone able to help out an old deck?

They made those in Black too. The deck would look sweet with 2 black ones on it.

I have not seen that one just the three spoked one and the asking prices I've seen on e-#*y are too rich for my blood. I saw a pair of black ones there with a BIN price of $150.

So far the deck stands me less than $20 in parts + time so expensive reels ain't gonna happen. Besides, I'm planning to gift the deck to an old friend.

EDIT: Last August, moments before I found the Akai, I was looking for a Teac metal reel since I have a Teac deck. I went by a audio swap meet table with two silver Akai metal reels amongst others, but no Teac. Asking price was $5 each but I wasn't interested since I didn't own an Akai. A half hour later, after loading this Akai R2R in my trunk, I go back for the reels but too late. I snost & lost.

These are custom made reels by a TH's member, Twinimage. He made the one's in my avatar.

I think they make Des jealous or something, he gets a good rant in at least.

I don't pay much attention to what he post anymore. It's just best to let him throw his little temper tantrums and get it over with. From the replies to his post, most of the members are tired of his childish behavior. Even PS, on occasions, has told him to back off but he continues. Maybe he's just going through a mid-life crisis. Who knows?
