Oh, I'm aware of that. Been following the overhaul for years through the local Cheyenne paper and TV station reporting on it...

I went to see it as it passed through eastern Iowa. VERY impressive. If you get the chance and like machines it is a must see.
As a mechanical engineer I would love to spend a day looking it over. It was so hot sitting there at arrival that you couldn't be very close to it for very long.

The engine was designed to haul freight over the Rockies and Sierras. I have seen pictures of two in tandem! Gosh, I've never seen a locomotive look so modern. What an incredible restoration job. Look at any engine parked in a park and you'll see terrible rust where the cinders exit the fire box. Every valve is locked tight.

You have to keep the old steam engines hot or they rust. That Number 4014 engine is a national treasure.

The boys in Cheyenne did a helluva job. A labor of love fer sure..
And ya know it wasnt cheap. The cost of restoration isnt discussed, which should tell ya it was VERY expensive..
