PL 400 series 2 in progress before WOPL

No . . . I know the TO-3's push in. I meant, do those turrets "press" into the backplane circuit board, or solder in? Sorry for the confusion.

PL 400 series 2 in progress before WOPL

Ah, cool. I get it now. I've seen those "turrets" before only in pictures. They look very similar to the little feed-through turrets that you'd use to repair an eyelet on a double-sided board. The backplane board really makes it look like a "pro" job. (Not that you aren't.) P.S. Do you solder...

PL 400 series 2 in progress before WOPL

Beautiful work. I have a couple questions about the backplane: Does it take the place of the TO-3 sockets? Do the transistors solder in direct, or do they still go into a socket of some sort? Thanks; Artie

PL400 Series II WOPL Quasi Control Board

Excellent. "Advanced" is what I prefer. So, the WA relay will still work if wired using the preferred grounding technique described in this thread?

PL400 Series II WOPL Quasi Control Board

Hi all. I'm following these threads closely. (Trying to make a decision on my 400 II.) I notice that the "white wire" ground problem, identified in posts #24 & #25, is precisely what is described in the WattsAbundant relay installation procedure. I take it, that instruction is wrong. As shown...

Taking the Plunge Into the WOPL 400-II Pool

I had to pop in here just to say that those wood panels are sweet. I love how you radiused the edge to match the front panel. Great inspiration for if I ever get around to doing mine.

    RevE5 vs RevG5?

I already have the "basket-case" 400 II. For my first attempt, I should probably keep this simple, and play "by the book", so to speak. Edit: When I say "first attempt", I mean at modding this amp. I have over half a century of electronics experience.

    RevE5 vs RevG5?

Yeah. I bet they're going to make me pay for it. :p (All kidding aside, I will.)

Dual mono! Super cool. This is just what I was hoping for. I wish they had pics. Thanks NW. Artie

    RevE5 vs RevG5?

Hi all. I notice on the price list a RevG5 control board, but see no info about it. So, what is the G5 mod? Thanks. Also, is there any advantage to upgrading the TO-3 sockets to something better? Artie

    Hi all, from sunny Florida.

Hey folks. Found this place from Audiokarma. I've got a "basket-case" PL 400 II sitting in a box that I'd love to bring back to life. This looks like the place. I've got a million questions, but for now, I'll just say "hey", and read as much as I can. Artie
